73 GT750 Lower Pipes - Removing Baffles

Post by Whit »

Decided to clean out the pipes and replace all of the muffler gaskets. I noticed on the small lower pipes that there is no cross bar on the baffle. First two stroke that I have seen like this. I have not taken the black cones off the large ones yet so I don't know if they have a cross bar or not. Question is how do you remove the baffle without a cross bar to pull on? //Pat

Ok after looking at the field guide which showed the cross bar, I looked closer and noticed that there are two small holes on the sides of the baffle where the cross bar used to be. Looks like that baffle is going to stay in there for a while. I think I will wait till in the morning to pull the cones off of the other 3 and see what awaits me. //Pat

8) Hi,I have an "A" model so not familiar with the "cone" set up!
I think there is some sort of seal/clip set up holding them on,Apparently they are prone to come off themselves from time to time !.No doubt someone with a J or K model, will tell "us" how it's done :?:
Cheers,

The same screw that holds the baffle in holds the cones on. Once you remove the screw, just turn the cone slightly and pull off. I was finally able to get the baffles out even without the crossbar. I used needlenose vicegrips to catch the baffles and using a hammer was able to tap them out. Took about 40 taps but they eventually came out. Regards ///Pat
