T500 excess smoke

got this 71 T500 going after a 18 year sleep. it started on 2 kicks! i have not ridden it on the road yet. idle smooth takes gas great but smokes alot so today i cleaned the mufflers and baffles and drained the crankcase still smokes alot seems a little better. maybe just needs to be taken out and reamed on. any ideas? thanks Ron

:up:Yes the crank seals are gone for sure!! In fact I CAN guarantee that after that long "asleep" the motor will have to be stripped & rebuilt. The seals will be bone dry & the crank will no doubt have rust issues,surprised she started,!!! :?:

After that length of time, as GT750Battleship offers, it is likely you need a crankshaft rebuild. You can try to give it a good run to see if anything changes, but doing so may do more harm than good. If there is corrosion on the big end bearings you risk doing more damage which will up the repair cost considerably. 8)

smoking update. took the T500 for a short ride tonight this is the first time i have ridden it. good news ran great lots of power when i got back it was smoking much less. bad news when i got into fourth gear it sounded like a cat that just had its tail stepped on. lack of oil to the fourth and fifth gear problem anyone have parts Ron
