T500 Oil Dam
Is the factory Oil Dam for the 1200cc trans cases available? If not is there an effective way to make a DIY oil dam?
Thanks,
Nathan

Sometimes a factory OEM shows up on eBay.
CSM Restoration Parts offer this reproduction, which I have installed in my '71 - Mission Oil Plate

As mentioned, CSM offers the dam in plastic - I had mine done in aluminium. You have the case apart anyway, and I prefer metal over plastic.

How are you securing the aluminum oil dam?

Sorry - the photo was just showing it after I'd shaped the aluminium dam to fit - it was then TIG welded in place after the photo was taken. The height you need is given in the Service Bulletin T-3, which can be found at this link.Ronin7 wrote:How are you securing the aluminum oil dam?

I picked one up- Much Appreciated. Funny thing is that my bike is supposed to be a '75 but it does not have the mod/new casting so since I have the cases apart to diagnose the kick starter I picked one up.

Ahh OK got it. I have a TIG and I have some aluminum but unfortunately I am missing the skill to TIG aluminum- I'll have to work on that.oldjapanesebikes wrote:Sorry - the photo was just showing it after I'd shaped the aluminium dam to fit - it was then TIG welded in place after the photo was taken. Odd - and your engine is a T500-68083 or later ? I'm surprised as the 1975 models were T500-74198 and higher which is long after the factory said the change to the casting was implemented.Ronin7 wrote:Funny thing is that my bike is supposed to be a '75 but it does not have the mod/new casting so since I have the cases apart to diagnose the kick starter I picked one up.

Re: T500 Oil Dam
Well that explains it then- My engine number starts with 48... so apparently it has had an earlier engine swapped in.oldjapanesebikes wrote:Odd - and your engine is a T500-68083 or later ?
