GT380 transmission in GT550?

Post by arneg »

i was wondering if this is a worthwhile swap, or even doable? would be nice to have 6 instead of just 5 speeds.

The 550 doesn't need 6 gears, plenty of power spread and better torque than the 380.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

Advantage or not, I don't think there is any way to do it without major engineering, if even then. Utterly different cases and box. Personally, I like more gears than I strictly need. I'd like 6 on Kettles and 550s for the hell of it, so nice are Suzuki boxes. I've 6 on my GSX1400, a bike that arguably needs only 3-4 gears :-)

Yup I'm with you on that one Mike, I like my overdrive for long rides, and I'm still researching what six speed box will fit into a MK1 Bandit 1200. I'm told an early 90s GSX-R 750 gearbox will fit so I'm looking into it.
I wished the GSX1400 was available in the US or Canada, sort of a marketing blunder by Suzuki, just the same as not having the Honda CB 1300 over here either.
Sometimes you have to create what you want, to get what you need.

Good song Battleship, however I could do without the choir.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.
