1971 TS50R

Post by dean »

I picked this cute little '71 TS50... came with a clean , clear title which is crucial here in IL

Anybody have/had one of these monster dual sports?

The "plan" is to go through it, make it safe and reliable and just leave the paint and patina as-is. It was parked due to a piston seizure and it has been sitting for many years with the jug off (indoors) , so if I can get the parts, I will go ahead and split the cases to clean and check everything , then button it up with new gaskets , crank seals etc.

I am searching for a service manual and will not go deep into the engine until I have one. Anyone have one sitting around? There is nothing on ebay, amazon etc.

also, I would have assumed that the AS, AC and TS 50's would have all had the same engine components, however when I look at the fiche, the TS pistons are " key stone type" groove and rings and the part numbers differ from the other 50's. ( would AS/AC pistons work if I used the matching rings? )

So other than the engine.. there is a big list just at a glance... fork springs are collapsed, missing turn signals, missing chain guard, tail light lens missing, needs tires ..head light bucket is from ???? it's a single beam whatzit.

any help is appreciated ! Dean

Dean-
Might want to post this one up in the Suzuki off road section. That's where us TS/TM folks hang out...this from a neighbor in Deerfield, to one in H.P.! :D

Oh, hey Alex :D !

thanks- I will repost the above in the off road section. It is a street legal bike with lights and license plate so maybe you will see me putting around Deerfield after I find a service manual and some parts. !

Dean:
This is a cool project, and I'm jealous that I likely missed it locally on Craiglist or a garage sale!
It's going to take some patience to round up the parts- have you tried Paul Miller Motorcycles in CT yet? I forget his eBay seller's name, but he's the main source for vintage Suzuki stuff. Headlight, tail light lens, chain guard should be findable used.

The one thing that has me puzzled are the collapsed forks, never had that issue on my old bikes. Seems like the only way for that to happen would be missing fork springs- that, or it's just that all the oil is gone due to blown seals. Find any answers yet?

Nothing yet. It's right where I parked it the day I brought it home. I'm finishing up on a 400 2T restoration now, and will start on the little TS soon. I'm pretty patient when I comes to parts hunting.... this one will be fun

I am looking for a service manual tho... I'm fine with tearing into a project, just would like to know which side is down when splitting a case, specs for measuring wear tolerances, bolt torque fluid qty etc etc...
