speedo mileage counter defect

Post by klausll »

Hello, could anybody help me, please. On my 76 GT750 the mileage counter stopped doing his duty, everything else is workin just fine. Did anybody had the sam or a similar problem, and would you suggest how to repair it. As I travelled through internet and the literature, I did not a find a description how the speedometer looks inside. I tried to disassemble, but at a certain stage I stopped because I could'nt open the top, where the mileage counter is built in. If somebody would have a photo of the inside or a description, it will help me lot. I am from Germany, drive my reliable bike for 6 years now and really like it.

Kind regards Klaus

8) Hi Klaus,I have friends that are instrument makers, while the Nippon Denso product is very good internally, they were never really made to be taken apart to be repaired...unless you know what you are doing..what happens apparently is the magnet inside can be moved away from its position due to a knock in an accident or by vibration, also there is a "dashpot" inside that can loose its oil,not to mention gears stripping out after 37+ years...but these things can be fixed at a price...
Cheers,

Klaus - you should have found this link while doing a search - there are some photos. http://www.oldjapanesebikes.com/fieldgu ... auges.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; And they are rebuildable - both Gary in the UK and Allan in Barbados can do this for you - see this link for contact information http://www.oldjapanesebikes.com/mraxl_G ... urces.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; .You can also buy refurbished units from Reiner in Germany and also NOS ones from Manfred - see this link http://www.wasserbueffel-club.de/ersatzteile.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . Hope that helps.
