T250R Float setting

Post by corky »

Hi Guys, have finished my T250R restoration but having carb trouble. Have rebuilt the carbs with a carb kit and all the jets needles etc are correct but cannot find a settting for the float height. I keep flooding the engine and am having fuel coming out the exhaust and the crankcase filling up. I know the float height is critical not only to stopping it flooding but also to get it running right. The setting in the haynes manual is for a single float but my floats are the later two seperate floats on a pin. Also the haynes manual says the carbs are VM24 but my owners manual says they are VM26SH. I have a GT250 manual which shows the same float arrangement as mine with a setting of 13.6mm but they are different carbs. Anyone know the correct setting for the VM26? Also tried to post photos but the files are too big but they are on my lowest setting on the camera. Any ideas on how to post. Regards Steve

Carb specs for 1971 are in service bulletin Specification-6:

Diagrams of how to measure the float settings are shown in service bulletin Specification-8:
http://www.ozebook.com/compendium/techb ... %206-9.pdf

Not a carb expert, but they generally suggest to tilt the carbs when measuring so that the needle valve spring isn't compressed.

Some of the experts complain about the quality of the jets in those kits.
Don't know how much of an issue kit jet quality is, but you should make sure the kit jets are correct for your model year.

Corky , if you are saying the cases are filling while the bike is sitting not running it sounds more like you have a leaking gas tank petcock .

It was only the left crankcase and as the petrol tap is a vacuum tap I checked that no petrol was leaking from the tap. I have now changed the float needle and seat and the crankcase flooding is cured, but am still having carb problems, starts first kick and runs fine up to about 3000/3500 rpm and then chokes up and loses power. Plugs are a black sooty colour so think its running to rich and needs some adjustment

Hummmm , if no gas is leaking past the petcock while it sits it wouldnt matter if the float valve leaked or not as no gas would be getting to the float valve ?
