oil pump adjustment? shes not smoking, i like smokers at 1st
Im just wondering, I have my oil pump set at the stock setting, and im using bellray si-7 full synthetic. The bike does not smoke at all, even at start up (unless she has been sitting for a long time) so i was wondering if I should raise the mark a little on the oil pump? give it a little more oil? I know its getting oil, the oil in the tank is going down and if it hasnt been getting oil im surprised it hasnt seized yet.... the bellray is supposed to be smoke less, but i have used this before and it still smoked a little, espescially at start up. How do your bikes run? do they smoke for a while then it goes away after warm up? mine does not smoke unless she sits for a while then right at start she will smoke but in a couple of minutes it goes away, either everything on this bike is working perfect(yea right) or something isnt right, or maybe the bellray is actually smoke less even at start up?

I run Mobil semi-synthetic 2T in my 380, which conforms to the latest JASO FD standards for low smoke, and sure enough, it doesn't smoke ... I get a little smoke when starting from stone cold using the choke, but as soon as the choke is knocked off it stops smoking. I don't leave the bike idling from cold, I move off after 10 seconds or so.
The oil pump is set as per the manual. Modern oils, especially at the high-end like the Bel-Ray you're using, really are close to smokeless.
For what it's worth, mine uses a litre of oil about every 500 miles (about 300 miles per imperial pint, which is 20 fluid ounces). I have thought of backing off the pump a little, but 1) using an extra half-bottle of oil per year is a lot cheaper than risking an engine rebuild and 2) if it isn't fouling the plugs, a well-lubricated engine will run cooler and happier ...

All my 2 strokes smoke when cold. I use to use Si-7 but it cost too much. I now use yamalube in my H2 and Castrol Superlube in my 74 GT 750 , Kawasaki H1B and S2A.All these smoke to some extent BUT never smokeless.
Normal riding you will see very little if any at all , once acceleration takes place then you will see some.
On Sunday after a good ride I was accelerating up a hill on the way home (2 up) and laughed as I looked in the mirror only to see a Blue haze behind me.
New oils sure cut down on the smoke BUT they are never smokeless.

Yes be sure it is working.
Check oil injection lines for oil not air in them.
Make sure the oil tank to pump line is clean and not clogged. I have seen a few of these clogged.
I always flush and clean oil tank and feed line.
I think one I checked a 350 and it was using about 40:1 oil versus gas. It depends how you ride I suppose. Manuals have specs... not sure have to verify though with a test jig
Is that oil JASO FD rated? That rating usually means very low smoke.
Some of my bikes do not smoke at start (maybe the ones the check valves don't leak at al
l),
But, I can see signs of unspent oil soot coming out of exhaust pipe end, leaky header coupling or misting the rear fender , license plate etc. Mess to clean, but like to see that
Some oils have no smell too. When they do if I start in an in closed area like my garage I can certainly smell it (oops sometimes I use up my snowmobile oil… me bad). Motul seems to have no smell for example.
I did have a bike oil pump fail and assumed no smoke was still normal. My oil lines were very full of air. Ran many miles that way, before everything (crank too) suffered... engine got noisy... vibrations set in.
Makes me nervous and I tend to run a 100:1 or better oil in my gas tanks too
Should you increase the oil injection setting? Try a little more Up to you; carry some spare plugs in case. I think it is a good idea if you run bike hard, if you lug it may pool up.
If you drive for a while low rpms lugging and then WOT until red line I would say you should see some smoke even FD rating for oil tends to pool in bottom of cases and WOT and high crank speed should lift that up even if SRIS system… my experience on the bikes I own and al JASO FD full syn
