Re: electronic ignition gt750
Greetings. It has been a few months since I last logged on, but, back surgery is a pain in the butt (sorry about the pun). I noticed the line of discussion regarding the Dyna system for the GT750 and had to chime in, since I ordered one from BB last week and it should be here tomorrow. I was concerned about the picture as well, but also concluded that it was generic. I asked about any installation hints or other part requirements for installation, and BB told me that legalities prevented their responding to such questions, but a set of installation instructions will be included and they would be glad to sell me a Clymer manual.
Guys, I am going to need more help than I can get, but any hints, instructions, and "God, don't do that," statements will be welcomed.
By the way, my 1974 GT750 has officially been titled, "OILY1."
Thanks.
MZ

Re: electronic ignition gt750
I ended up getting the newtronic kit, but I have not installed it yet. The kit I got has the metal base plate and everything looks pretty good, but when I do install it I will let you know if I have any problems. I know you got a different kit but I would assume they all should install about the same? or not? I have no idea I have never out one on either so I will be asking questions as well...

Re: electronic ignition gt750
What did the Newtronic unit cost you? The Accent unit from Germany looks cool, but I can't get a price on it, either. Did make contact with Bike Bandit and Surprise their unit is for a GS, not GT, 750.
Let me know how this works for you. I hate to spend such a junk on points when I could screw up something else instead.

Re: electronic ignition gt750
Is Uwe not replying to your emails ? If I recall, there were something like €115 or so (which would be about $150 in USD), plus the shipping but that was two years ago. You could always just call him of course eh ? All the direct contact info is on his web site.Mightyzod wrote:The Accent unit from Germany looks cool, but I can't get a price on it, either.
I like them (I have two) - if you feel that you have to replace points (and lets be serious - its usually a 'want' rather than a 'need'

I bought an Accent unit from Uwe last year and I recall it was about $150 including shipping to US from Germany. Excellent value and easy to fit.

Have two bikes with the Newtronics system. Definitely recommended but the Accent is a better buy & easier to install.

Re: electronic ignition gt750
Thanks for the information on the accent system. All sound very positive. I received a response from Accent as well, verifying the approximate price of 160.00. Sounds like I will have to have one, and use the install info posted as my guide. I will share, as soon as completed.
My GT is now a daily rider. Without the help from this site, that would not be possible.
Big thanks,
MZ

Re: electronic ignition gt750
Sorry its taken me this long to give you a reply, I got the newtronics kit off ebay, I kept looking and one finally came up, I believe I paid around $190.00 or $200.00 with shipping, I got lucky I think, because they usually cost more, I have not put it on yet, but when I do I will fill you in unless you go with the accent, as long as its a good unit and no more messing with points is a good thing!!!! The newtronic kit that I have is a ckt-SU6A and it has a metal base plate instead of plastic or whatever the old one had, I might have paid more but I dont remember because I never told the wife, so as soon as evidence of an expensive part came in I got rid of the paper reciept, but i do have a copy of the reciept somewhere on the computer, hehehe

You bought one and they can't tell you how it fits/works? Smells like bulldoody or something similar to me.Mightyzod wrote: I asked about any installation hints or other part requirements for installation, and BB told me that legalities prevented their responding to such questions,
I bet they would. Buy a parts manual instead, they give full 'exploded' diagrams of everything on the bike.Mightyzod wrote: they would be glad to sell me a Clymer manual.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

I think I have every manual produced for this bike. Anything that can help make it run is welcome in my shop.
I have an Accent system on the way. I hope Bike Bandit decides to refund my money for their mistake soon.

Re: electronic ignition gt750
Good news, bad news. The Accent system arrived last weekend, but the instructions are in German. Does anyone have the English version? Ian mentioned the translated instructions left a bit to be desired, but I know they have to be better than my German. The unit is beautiful and I do not want to risk screwing it up.
Thanks.
HA! I found the translated version on the internet. Now, let's go break something.
