I don't think I'll ever own a Harley. Nothing the slightest against the bikes, I just don't like half of the people's attitudes that ride them. Similar to a click in high school and I wouldn't like being associated with that mentality. I have ridden a couple Sportsters and V-Rods. Which I like both.celt_rock wrote:My Sportster has stock exhaust. I don't want anybody to know I'm coming.![]()
By the way, the Sportster was a "gift". Don't judge

Sounds like we're very lucky here in Michigan. No testing or inspections of any sort. The DNR does check for spark arrestors and decible levels on off road vehicles operating on public land but that's all I've ever experienced. On the Harley comment I do remember somebody saying they asked a cop after being pulled over why Harleys could get away with it and the cops response was something like "It's a Harley, They're built that way, Yours wasn't". In truth they aren't built that way. Someone I know was telling me when they bought a new one the salesman all but made him upgrade it with the 'Screaming Eagle" kit and said that everybody put them on. He got it but has since told me that he doesn't even like riding it with the loud pipes and is embarrassed to ride though his neighborhood. That's a shame.
I'll always remember this time at the Muskegon Bike Time festival. We were riding down the main strip and there were so many bikes that we were all stop and go with crowds of people all around (you couldn't even see pavement). Some guy on a Harley just in front of me started reving his bike. Well I had my trusty Higgsy chambers and don't usually rev my bike up but I get so annoyed when Harley guys do it that I reved mine out too and totally drowned his out. Then all these people around me started yelling and cheering. What a great experience that was.

The ability to step on a gas pedal extra hard or roll a throttle extra hard doesn't make one B-A and yet try telling that to the
kids who pull into the parking lot here at school in the a.m. or the guys on Harleys stopped at the light in front of the
house here in town. Actually, it's mostly the crotch-rockets that pull that one. Makes me want to move.
I used to ride an '86 Suzuki Intruder to school here and it wasn't until I pulled in on a Harley that the school Harley guys would
even pay me the time of day. I had a lot of fun telling them that I'm only slumming on the bike until I can get my Titan running.
That being said I really like my Sportster now that I've de-Harley-fied it. Took off some weight, replaced the bucks with drag bars and gave it a more sporty look. I've always wondered why the Sportsters have played like the little brother to the bigger bikes (ie. "I couldn't afford a Fat Boy so I got a Sportster and customized it") instead of embracing the name. Granted it's 500 lbs of pure heavy, not very sporty, but they can be turned). In my case it was free... my father gave up riding, so the price was right and I can spend some $ cutting it down to size.
Speaking of cutting down to size, that 3-1 pipe must cut a LOT of weight off a bike. Those stock exhausts are dense!

Slow and steady may win the race, but without loud and fast it's just a waste

I like the idea that you should be able to lean the Buffalo to a larger extent with the 3 into 1 set up. With the oem pipes or expansion chambers you have to be very conscious of not having too much fun. Which is one aspect that absolutely sucks about these old bikes. But, the other cool factors far out weigh that negative aspect. Then of course, like you said the weight. Shouldn't be much less than a 3 into 3 aftermarket expansion chambers set up though. Maybe, a pound.

Re: For Sale: Strader 3-1 Exhaust System for GT750 - $600 ob
I wasn't 100% clear, but I was referring to a state annual safety (and sometimes emissions) inspection. Some states don't have this (Florida I believe is one). But I am unaware of any state which would fail an inspection for excessive noise.pearljam724 wrote:Your last sentence. In New Jersey and New York. It is well known, that state police have noise ordinance check points in the summer. They put a device at the end of your pipe. If it reads over the allowed decimals. You fail. Its quite common in those places. At these check points they also inspect DOT regulated helmets, signals, headlights, etc. Its very common today for motorcyclist to customize their bike. In some places of high traffic, law cracks down on those things.ConnerVT wrote: I do not know of a state inspection that does more than check the integrity of a vehicle's exhaust (does it leak?).
Now, NYS troopers with checkpoints? That certainly is a reality.

Im well, Nick. Unfortunately, I'm a few months away from hearing them for the first time. I got all my parts gathered, all painting is finished and the new crank recently installed. Between now and the next few months. I will be piecing everything else back together. Once again, much thanks. I can't thank you, enough. They are absolutely beautiful. To say I'm anxious, to hear it fire up for the first time. Is an understatement. Lol !
