Re: On Facebook
Should we use the "page" or the "group"?
Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/612729305422770/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
What are the differences?

Re: On Facebook
A quick Google of the two and from Facebook:
Page:
Facebook Pages enable public figures, businesses, organizations and other entities to create an authentic and public presence on Facebook. Unlike your profile, Facebook Pages are visible to everyone on the internet by default. You, and every person on Facebook, can connect with these Pages by becoming a fan and then receive their updates in your News Feed and interact with them.
Group:
While Pages were designed to be the official profiles for entities, such as celebrities, brands or businesses, Facebook Groups are the place for small group communication and for people to share their common interests and express their opinion. Groups allow people to come together around a common cause, issue or activity to organize, express objectives, discuss issues, post photos and share related content.
Maybe a "Group" would be better suited , just my 2 cents.

Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

Re: On Facebook
I really don't think you'll split/dilute and have people run away from this forum just because someone had the opportunity to post a picture somewhere else besides here. There are tons of motorcycle specific "groups" on Facebook, none of them have the amount of participation usually associated with real forums such as this one, it's just another place to post a picture with a comment. Facebook wouldn't be the only other place for Suzuki two strokes, there's also a Yahoo group, and don't forgot our friend at Ozbook and a whole bunch of UK forums for Suzuki's. Having a Facebook group for Suzuki two strokes would only add additional exposure to our bikes, may even generate some new members here if a link was added.Alan H wrote:What's the point of diluting / splitting the forum and using facebook at all ?

Re: On Facebook
I'll say this and I'll possibly be flamed for it but I cant stand what Facebook and Twitter has become. Social media was never intended to be a gossip gathering waterhole but it certainly has turned out to be place for such.

Re: On Facebook
Farcebook. A necessary evil. I use it to keep in touch with friends and family members. It took me about 12 months to get used to the way people post absolute crap about their days. There is a "hide" button for those people who insist on telling us all what they are having for lunch etc.
If it wasn't for Farcebook I wouldn't know what my ex from 1975 looks like today. Yikes! I made the right decision.

Re: On Facebook
So true Rhen, my how we have progressed technologywise. There was a man years ago who invented a thing called the telephone, the idea was designed so people could talk over long distances.
Basically you call a number and talk live and direct to the person you wish to hear.
100 years later we have reinvented it with the cell phone and the wonderful thing called texting, now you stare at a silly little screen and type with one hand waiting for the reply to come back.
Maybe the next best thing will be the electronic morse code phone.
On the other hand the PC developers were working for what seemed like forever to rid the home PC of the very same keyboard concept and use voice recognition software.
While the phone developers have been hard at work putting a keyboard in so you must use it, when you never had to before.

I don't have a problem with FB - different strokes for different folks. This format (a board) I think works better for the sorts of technical discussions that frequently happen - FB doesn't handle discussion threads well, but is handy for surveys, events, photo albums and simple babble.

Re: On Facebook
Not to derail this thread further than it already is, but I discussed a similar thing about texting the other day.
My friend told me he needed to text several (younger) relatives and friends, as they typically won't take a regular phone call. But he has a terrible time typing. So he uses the voice-to-text software on his Android.
So think about it. You could speak what you wish to text, have the phone convert the voice to text, send the text message, and once it is received on the other end, they can have the phone use text-to-voice software read it to you. 21st century progress, I tell you!
