Suzuki GT750 Vetter Windjammer Mounting Questions

Post by JomamaGT »

Just beginnning the process of mounting a Windjammer V to my 1976 Suzuki GT750A. Can anyone tell me if the headlight bucket has to be removed? Any other tips to make this go smoothly would be appreciated.

I had to remove at least the headlamp retainer ring and bulb as a minimum as otherwise its difficult to get good lock to lock turning without contacting the inside of the fairing - actually on my first one, and using the Vetter supplied bracket, I could not swing it over far enough to use the steering lock. On the one I have now (I just realised I've had it for 30 years actually :D ) I swapped in a '78 or so GS750 bucket as it is shorter front to back and overall gave a better fit in the fairing while providing enough room for the wiring to be tucked away. I also had to make my own mount bracket from memory as I couldn't locate one when I first hung it. Good luck ! 8)

I was hoping you would reply! Thanks for the advice on the headlight bucket. I guess I'll have to mount it and see what happens.

What I really need to talk with you is how to pull the radiator crashbar forward so I can use my mount. The mount was made by Ocelot Engineering in San Bernadino CA and I'm having some fitment issues. Can you detail and/or provide photos on how you attached the crash bar securely to the frame where the top is forward of the normal position? Then how did you attach the mount to the crash bar?

Anyway you're the guy who successfully made his own bracket and I would appreciate any tips you have to offer.

My 76 came with a Windjammer 111 and the headlamp bucket had been removed. The lens and rim were relocated to the front of the fairing and the wiring loom for the fairing was spliced into the stock wiring.

Thanks for the info on the bucket! If you still have that bike and fairing I would appreciate any photos you might have of the bracket and the relationship to the radiator crash bar. I want to get the geometry right.

Bike and fairing long gone, so these are the only pics I have of it.

Just to tie up loose ends on this post, I was able to get a Vetter made bracket (through some incredible horse trading!) and it should go together quickly. Just two more questions:

This windjammer has a stereo system in it. Where should I power that off of and do I need to put an inline fuse in it?

I have an extra bracket support (about 12" in length) besides the two that connect to the bottom of the radiator bracket on the left and right sides. It has a curved end where it would appear to support the radiator crash bar and the other end is bent with a hole accepting an 8MM bolt. I am mystified as to how this mounts - help?
