Dont have time to rebuild, any suggestions
I think Im going to just rebuild the motor, or I was going to myself but now I have some medical issues that I have to deal with, and now Im considering sending the motor out to have it rebuilt but im not sure who to send it to? I think it needs new crank seals (and even if it doesnt I want it all done at one time) I have new pistons for it, I was planning on sending it to bill bune for crank and i was going to do the rebuild myself like i said but thats not going to happen now, does bill bune rebuild motors? I talked to him a while back but at the time it was just about sending him my crank whenever I got around to pulling the motor, i never asked if he rebuilds them. I live in El Paso Texas, on the border of new mexico, I was also thinking about sending it to knk cycles, I have ordered alot of parts from him and he seems pretty honest but thats really far, but if its done right its ok, if anybody has any suggestions let me know, I just want it done right, I have never had somebody else rebuild any of my stuff so this will be a first, I have had bad luck with even trusting someone to bore cyclinders! at least around here. , Arizona and southern California are closer to me than East Texas, (Texas is Huge)...

There are several people on this board that have the ability and experience to build your motor professionally and some care closer than others. The motor weighs around 180 pounds and needs to be shipped on a shipping crate of some sort. A shipping box would be best, but a simple stand bolted to a skid and wrapped would work too.
It's too heavy for UPS or Greyhound bus and needs to go Freight.
Closest to you is probably John Aylor in NM (JA-Moo). He's a Kawasaki triples guy and i have no idea if he would be interested or have the time, but he's competent.
Eric K of this board has build a few of them for others and again I have no idea if he's interested or has time.
I would not have though of KnK as an engine rebuilder, but he may be able to do it.
Guys like Scott Clough could do it but he's a porting and race guy, so engine rebuilds may not be his thing.
I have built dozens of engines including a couple or three GT750 motors - Usually for myself or racer clients, but I have also built a pile of street motors too.
There are probably a few others who I don't know as much about.
If you can find someone locally, that would probably be the easiest way to get it done. If shipping or distance is not a real issue, any one of us could give you a quote and build that motor.

Re: Dont have time to rebuild, any suggestions
Thanks for the info, im going to ask around here, but most of the people here have no idea what it is, and those that do are not in the business anymore, but i will ask. I have had bad machine work here so the idea of machine work here is not a good one, so sending the jugs and crank out were already a must, might as well just send the whole thing, not sure how long I will be out. I have it running pretty good now, i might hold off and see how it does, but I would rather just have it rebuilt so i know its ok, I have rebuilt more car motors (small blocks/ big blocks) than motorcycles, but i have had my share of bike motors, and iv seen how some people do stuff, not saying anything bad about anybody here, just saying iv seen really crappy work so I would like someone who knows their stuff and actually cares about other peoples stuff, if anybody would like to give me a quote im all ears, I have all the stuff for a re-bore(pistons, pins etc..) i have 2 full gasket sets, what i need is the crank rebuilt, and a new water pump. The knk cycles guy has actually helped me alot over the phone, and he seems to have alot of experience with the gt750, but its pretty far to ship there, he said he would do it for me, but shipping is a bitch, like I said I will ride it for a little while just to see how it is, but then I would like to pull the motor before Im not able to , thanks for the help!!

Eddie,
Sorry to hear about the health issues. If you can get a friend or son or neighbor to pull the motor out, you could strip and rebuild it yourself. The motor has to come out if you ship it or if you do it in house, so it's a thought. I did a really quick check on shipping from El Paso to the Midwest and I'm sure I can get a complete bike shipped for less. That was a big number.
I would send pistons and barrels to Bill Bune and the crank and seals there too, for the rebore and crank build. Have them lightly skim the top and bottom barrel faces while they have the block up there in MN.
We use Bill Bune for all our crank work now but have a great auto machine shop that does our bores and simple milling. For more complex machining I send it to a tool and die guy who is more anal about tolerances than I am, so the work quality is superb.
GT motors are really simple to work on, but they are big lumps to handle.
But then again, if it's running fine, why mess with it. Just run it and enjoy it as it is.
