Anyone using a universal petcock ?

I would really like to obtain the oem one. But, I'll be damned if I'm paying $125 dollars for a new one or $50 dollars for a rebuild kit that only has 80% of the parts needed. If you are, post on what model bike ? I'm looking to add one on a 76 750.

Pingel Fuel Taps are highly recommended in GPZland as the 900R shares the same style vacuum petcock. Although there doesn't appear to be one listed for the GTs on the website, it suggests ringing them to check.

If you go to their website, use the fuel tap for the 1200 Bandit that has one large outlet for the 74-77 Buffalo, then add one of their adapter plates with the correct spacing between the holes to screw onto it. You will then have the correct petcock with an on, off and reserve and large sized outlet.
However their will be no more vacuum so you need to plug the carb vacuum hose spigot.

I looked all over the net for a few days. Even tried fitting one from my 87 GS450 knowing the mount holes were the correct distance apart. But, the inlet stem is hair to wide. Was considering making my own like the post above. But, after pricing all the parts and contemplating a good way to seal off the new mounting plate that route wasn't worth it either. So, I gave up and sprung for a new one which I found for $104. Which nearly killed me, having to commit to that price for a petcock. It was that or rebuild mine for $50 and taking a chance that the other gaskets would stop the over flow of gas to my vacuum too. My old petcock leaked badly everywhere. At the settlement bowl, lever valve and vacuum diaghram. Had one kit included a diaphram, spring and o ring. I would have went the rebuild direction. But, the prices for kits are too high. If you can't rebuild the diaphram too. Which I guess I could have elected to cap off the vacuum. But, a complete and new petcock should last at least 10 years. Minimum. Sometimes, you just have to bite the bullet.
