72 GT750 Project

The humble beginnings. Of course I spent last night cleaning a set of cases that I forgot had a broken off stud in them.

Oh well, hope to get the engine and tranny out and apart of the stock frame tonight yet so I better get going.

I'd be embarrassed to say how long I've been sitting on this stuff. Hope to start the engine before the end of October.
(1) 1972 GT750, now completely dismantled:
modified frame
(3) engines
set of 1.0 oversized pistons and rings
rebuilt crankshaft w/ new seals and bearings
all new transmission bearings
smaller radiator
ported, shaved, and bored jugs
copper headgasket
new gasket and oil seal sets
cylinder base shim plate and gaskets
18" excel aluminum rims
(1) complete 72 front drum brake setups
ocelot pipes
rear aluminum swingarm (dual shock)
GS series ducktail seat
(3) 36mm flatslide mikuni carbs
HPI ignition and coils
clubman bars
modified early hustler speedometer

Yep. I'm hoping to get it on the road in October to get the kinks out and then take it apart for paint and put back together for next spring.

Parts engine out of the parts frame, cylinders off, tommorrow night split the cases and clean.

What mods are you doing to the frame? I am doing a 72 with Suzuki RF600 front end and rear wheel in a GS1100 swingarm.

Sounds good, are you using the RF600 wheel on the back?

My current plans are GS1100E swingarm, suzuki GT750 drum brakes front and rear, I haven't settled on shocks yet, but probably Hagons, aluminum buchanan rims, remove unecessary tabs / miscellaneous mounts for things like the smaller radiator.

I will likely add frame stiffening across the front down tubes, but I haven't settled on layout.

RF600 rear wheel and disc brake. Dual RF600 brakes up front. I have a set Ohlins for the rear.

As mine sits right now.

The one radiator I might use is one I got on some parts bikes I procured. It has the cap relocated to the right side in the radiator and not in the frame location like the TR. No overflow bottle.

I put the rubber on today. I ended up with a 100/90 front tire and a 130/80 rear, spitfires.

I started it a couple months ago and had a friend of mine hold an alligator clip hooked to the generator side of the coils cut off wire. I unfortunately did not realize that there is no regulator in a total loss ignition, it was quite a shocking realization.

Everything else is pretty self explanatory. Now I have to figure out how far I can tuck those exhausts under there....

Those look like Ocelot race pipes. This should be interesting. I would probably run them as they are - with a coat of paint. Do you have a picture from directly behind the bike to see how much they stick out compared to the footpegs?

Yep, you are correct - they are ocelot's (as far as I can tell, I got them from ebay a few years back). I was thinking about blasting and then painting them with a 800 degree silver engine paint.

They did not come with rear mounting brackets, so I'll be fitting them this week / weekend. I'll put a picture from directly behind after fitment.

Of course the pipes didn't come with baffles, so I need to get some perforated pipe.... you don't happen to know the inside diameter that ocelot had in mind?

I haven't seen a set to measure, but the T500 pipes I have dimensions for reportedly at 1.125" od so that's probably 1"bore.
