I'm a little new, so please bear with me. I have a 1974 Suzuki GT250. I'm the original owner. It has a lot of sentimental value, so I try my best to keep it running. When I start the bike, there's a lot of white smoke coming out of the left side. I've pulled the spark plugs, and they are wet with gas. After reading tons of comments, I've narrowed it down to a leaking petcock, plugged air filter, float seal problems or worse case, bad crank seals. I figured I'd work on the easy stuff first and the harder stuff later. So my question is, where can I get a petcock for my bike? I've gone through the usual sources, and finding parts is a little difficult. Plus the exploded diagrams of the petcock do not show any replacement part for the diaphragm. Help!

Should be Suzuki PN# 44300-18450.
I just got one from my dealer it was about $80 (Canadian, so US pricing will be less).

could be as simple as a bad or stuck open check valve on the left side oil feed line. You say it smokes when you start it. Does it clear up after a good hard run? If it does, then would be my guess.
KnK Cycles shows a new petcock at $84.50 Near the bottom of this page. http://www.knkcycles.com/suzukiGT250.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The diaphragm is not available for any Suzuki models. It was not meant to be a replaceable part in Suzuki's mind. That's why it is not shown and there is no part number for it.

Oddly enough, I stumbled across an outfit in Germany now offering replacement petcock diaphragms (almost sounds rude doesn't it ?Coyote wrote:The diaphragm is not available for any Suzuki models. The link to the actual page is:

Prices are not too unreasonable - and it appears to be an exchange service as they need the pintel from the old diaphragm so they can re-manufacture them. I've bookmarked them for a future project I will be doing.

Click on Suzuki in the opening window. Then find your bike in the drop down window. Then in the left column, click on universal. The petcock and adapter plates are about 2/3 down that page.
