T500 having oil issues

Post by quazy »

I am getting to much oil out of the right bank and none out of the left. I was wondering what the bleeding procedure was? My "mechanic" tried to bleed the pump with no luck. I am thinking it might be bad. So also wondering what is all intaled in rebuilding one or if someone had one they could part with. ;)

Thanks
Dean

Have you got air bubbles in the oil lines?
Take the cover off the oil pump, and with the bike idling, hold the pump actuator arm, (that the cable sits in), to the point where the scribe mark on the arm aligns with the scribe mark on the pump body....which is the position the pump is in at full throttle. This speeds up the flow of oil to the motor, and you should see the bubbles gradually work their way, in a sort of jerky motion, towards the crank cases. It may take a couple of minutes until your lines become full of oil.
If you still have problems after this procedure, it may be that the lines themselves are faulty.

There isn't much to the pump itself - I put up an exploded view of one a while ago somewhere on this site - here it is again:

You can pull down a large version at this link:

Basically if oil comes out one port then it should also come out the other. The main problem I had turned out to be the lines themselves - have you manually pumped oil into the ones giving you trouble to confirm they are good ? Coyote offered a method elsewhere on this board which would be worth looking at - I forget where but you can do a search for his posts. I wrote about my problems here:

Good luck ! 8)
Ian

As Ian said, the pumps are not known for giving problems. I have had probably 20 500 twins over the years, and never known one to fail.
The lines however, can play up.
