GT500 - Resto Project - Tank & Frame Questions

Post by speedfreak »

New to this forum - new to Suzuki 2-strokes. Just got a GT500 total basket case and I'm starting the tedious project of bringing it back to life. First issue - The VIN tag is gone and all I have is the frame number: T500-106884. Any help with year? Shouldn't that be GT?

Second - trying to determine if the GT380 fuel tank that my local bike salvage has would fit the GT500. Thew machine I got came with no tank, so I don't even have a reference.

ANY help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks - That's a big help.

Got a pleasant surprise last night - the PO found the tank in a corner of his shed. Also found the rear light with the original lic. plate! That should make my life much easier!

That's a new high frame number ! I've added it to the list we are keeping at this link - thanks ! And you are welcome to take a look at my own GT500B restoration at this link. 8)

I set a record! And I've only just begun!

I've already perused your site. Great work! I'm SURE I'll be in touch. I'm just glad I found this forum since I know I'm going to run into issues. the bike has been stored outside, in pieces for over 2 years. Was running a year before that.

This is my first experience with 2-stroke. I know the basics, but I'm looking forward to learning some new "art".
