Same frigging thing. happened to me (not a suzuki ) I just bought a Kawasaki z900, and was going round a mates house, to show him! He was watching foot ball, and he said he might fancy a ride to the ace cafe. ( bikers cafe)
But after waiting, for about half an hour, and a cup of tea (footballs not my thing) he said that the football was into extra time. So got on my bike, and shot off for a blast to the Ace. I found a piece of open due-carrageway, and with a twist of the throttle, the speed went up, and up, then i felt something on my right inner calf. I felt down on the right, and felt .... wirers/ starter solenoid/ fuse box ....
f..k

, where's my side panel? Palled over and ran back, to find it!
But after it had been running down the road, face down, and broken luggs, and cracked half way down, that's a gonner. So Bought a reproduction panal off ebay, gave it to my painter mate, and had it back in three day's, painted.
So once bitten twice shy. ( you might get me once, but not twice) I drilled a small hole in the tip, of the two top luggs, and once fitted to the bike, i put a small pin nail straight through them, locking them in place, .so now to take them off, you have to lift the seat,( same as the suzuki) and take, the small pins out, to get the side panels off. Job Done!
I think my painter did a good job! ... Remember right hand panal! ...
