Parts question... GT550 vs. GT500

Post by jpeter6981 »

Are the forks and front rotor the same on the 75,76,77 GT550 as the 76,77 GT500? The part numbers seem to be different, but the parts have a very similar appearance. Anyone know?

I thought that the hard to find dust covers were the same and the brake caliper and rotor are definitely the same. But don’t they have a double brake?
I always check parts at alpha sports

Subject to correction, as always....

I believe North American 550's stayed with the single disk front all the way to the end in 1977.
The UK (and maybe Euro area) 550's got a dual disk front end from what I've been able to see in various mags over the years. I have noooo idea when the UK bikes started getting the dual disk front end.
I've never seen a pic of a GT500 with dual disks as stock......but I'm no 500 afficionado, for sure.
This is where it would be nice to have a copy/copies of the 1974 and, say, 1976 UK parts lists for the 550.....and the 1977 parts list for the GT500, too.
Anyone else got some ideas/facts/conjecture/rumours ??
