3-1 Pipes from my 1975 GT550

Post by wavehog33 »

I have a very nice set of 3-1 pipes from my 1975 GT550 that I will be taking off and selling. Any idea what brand these are and where to start for an asking price? I was told the previous owner had a buyer at $350ish? Is he crazy??

It's a Strader Industries pipe. The only magazine article I have seen suggested that performance was marginally improved. The guy IO got mine from said he couldn't tell the difference from stock, except that they were lighter.

This looks like the bike listed on freecycleshopper.com
Did you just buy it?

As a price reference point: new 3-into-1 exhausts are available from Omar for $565.
Based on what I've read, I think they are made by Jemco.

I recently got a GT550J with the 4LS front brake. Was thinking about possibly going with a 3-into-1 exhaust for it.

What the heck?? That is my add from Craigslist?????? How did that get there???
Anyway, yes thats mine. Don't seem to have much interest in the bike with the 3-1. everyone is looking for stockers (which I have and will be putting back on) The airbox is also back on the bike.

Do you have a dyno shop nearby/ It would be interesting to see a back to back test on the 550 to see how well it works. Of course a 3 into 1 weighs about 30 pounds less than stock and that's worth 4 HP already..

I think the benfit is a one of a kind awesome wail at about 6500 rpm like no other machine on earth can produce. I would run it just for that reason. i would build a cafe bike just for that pipe.

The headers and collectors on those Straders are just gorgeous to look at :)

Posted this before but when I ran a Piper 3-1 on my 380, I turned up at a classic car / bike show and was immediately surrounded by people asking how the hell it made that unearthly scream.

I think you get maximum coolness when you combine the 3-into-1 pipes with the 4LS drum front brake.

Interesting that you could keep the center stand with the Strader pipes.
Anyone know if you can keep the center stand with the Jemco 3-into-1 pipes?

Yes,but that's for black painted ones. I would say you could easily get $450 out of those. Stuffs not getting any cheaper.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

I've been looking for a set of those....
Wallet can't commit though...
I have a decent set of stock pipes if you'd like a trade a for a discount (if you're looking for stock pipes)....

Thanks again for all the insight. The bike for sure sounds like no other bike I have heard. Sounds like a F1 car!!. I believe a gentleman in FL is buying the bike with this pipe (that is how the add was posted and he saw it) Also throwing in a decent set of stockers for it too and the stock airbox. Just doesnt look like any market for the stock stuff on Ebay??? Almost too much out there?? That being said, I am looking for a nice 1975 GT380 left side outer for my GT380. Or an entire NICE set would be even better.

You're trying to sell the bike at the beginning of winter. Would expect you to get fewer prospective buyers & weaker prices. Not surprising that the buyer is in Florida.
