A while back I posted having problems with running/idleing issues with my GT550K .. It would idle up and down and sometimes stay at a high idle, and pinging. Sounded like a vacuum leak or possible crank seal problem.. After a while I just gave up and pushed it up in the corner and started to ride one of the good bikes.. I found myself wondering again about the bike and began working on it again. I called Suzukidave and after brain storming, he suggested calling Eric Von 2 stroke who has the all black GT550J up in North Carolina.. I told him how I checked for leaking seals, head and base gaskets, intake boots, and set the carbs by the Factory Suzuki manual and still it ran bad.. I had cleaned/tanked the carbs and blew out all the passages and jets, so I knew they were clean... The bike still ran bad... He told me I needed to get a laser thermometer to start with..
I rode to Harbor freight up in Alabama and for $20 got a small hand held one.. He then begen talking me through the carb tune/jetting.... After changing the 27.5 pilot jets to 30s.. Dropping the clip one notch (raising the needle) and setting the air screw at 3/4 turn out, I then began the fine tune with the laser thermometer.. Using the idle thumb screws to set the carbs to get the exhaust temperature as close as I could to all three being the same... The bike now runs better than my GT750 and idles perfect.. It takes off very smooth and accelerates great... I really appreciate the help I got.. The bike was about to become a garden ornament with flower pots hanging off it.... Now it is my daily rider... I parked my Honda and took up smoking again.. (GT brand)
Thanks again !!!
