Dave ++++1.

Yep, try the simple stuff first. I know a guy who got caught by this once...(no, it wasn't me)......but I helped him out of his dilemma.
Bike ran like a top after reversing the slides.
Admittedly, though, I have done the odd thing as dumb as that. It's just that I managed to figure the errors out myself without outside help.......so the embarrassment factor was non-existent.

Hi.

Just got back from working in Korea and read all your good ideas.

Thank You for putting thought into this problem of mine.

Things I have not yet tried are:
blocked gas cap
over rich mixture due to Pingel fuel valve
slides in wrong way around

I am not sure it is possible to put them in wrong way around, but will check
I think the over rich mixture due to the Pingel valve sounds quite possible, it hass significantly wider holes and we had to fit wider diamater fuel hoses too, so it could perhaps let in too much gas. I will get a NOS Suzuki vacum valve and see what that does.

Will keep you posted.

Rodney.

Update:

I tested the bike today without the air filter, it runs much better.
Revs through the gears well enough and is maybe close to what it should be.

So it seems, with everything stock, it runs too rich.

Why would that be ?

Maybe that Pingel high flow fuel petcock ?

Thing is though, I don't understand how that would let more fuel get to the motor.
Would the floats and shut off valve not meter the gas only to the amount which is required ?
How would more get past there ?

I will get a new Suzuki vacum petcock soon as I can and try it.

Yes It is possible to put the left slide into the right carb. If this is done it will run very rich if at all.
As long as the air box is off look inside the intake and you should see a gap about 5-8 mm high.

A non stock petcock that doesn't have a diaphragm may have a larger orifice which will allow higher head pressure.

My 2 cents worth, I don't see how a Pingel Would force a higher flow of fuel, it is gravity feed mostly, there is a slight suction effect with the motor running. Check the slides first to see if swapped , then pull the carbs and check floats for leaking and float level(too high). The slides should have the beveled edge pointing back toward the air filter and one last thing, recheck ignition timing. If anything, have someone else check it, who has not worked on it before, so they will have a 'fresh set of eyes' on it. Might catch a procedure you were doing wrong. It is just a thought, it's free and might help.?

I'm not saying the Pingel fuel valve will force fuel but it may allow more. All valves have a Cv rating. Cv is "Flow Coefficient" which is the valves ability to pass a amount H2O with 1 PSI of Dp across the orifice. I have not done a draw down into a graduated cylinder of the stock pet cock under simulated running conditions. Not sure if it really matters. But Dickrod(love that name  ) has a problem and he needs all the help we can give
