Mean Roar
I love the bike but from the youtube videos I've watched it sounds like a supertuned dirtbike. Perhaps I am hearing wrong, but is there a way to make it sound just super mean?

Re: Mean Roar
Or get a set of Higgspeed pipes and have it sound like a popcorn maker
two strokes don't "roar" like a 4 stroke but sound really mean with expansion chambers or perhaps a 3 into 1 pipe. It's a high pitched sound though, not like the low groan of a 4 stroke. The old Piper and Bromlech 3 into 1 pipes had a reasonably low note relative to say race stingers but not close to a 4 stroke. That's one reason we like them - because they are different and the exhaust note is an essential part of that difference.

Hey I take offense to that Higgsy comment. Besides, I happen to like popcorn.tz375 wrote:Or get a set of Higgspeed pipes and have it sound like a popcorn maker

That 'different sound' is a big part of the draw for these old bikes and it's something you just can't get anymore. Depending on what you have now chambers are definitely a way to give your bike that added growl. 3 into 3's sound great but I personally like the sound of that single 3 into 1 pipe better, although I've heard power delivery falls after 4,000 rpm's give or take depending on manufacturer. Of course there's always dragging a string of cans if you're on a budget.
No really... it's supposed to smoke.

Re: Mean Roar
I'm in full agreement on the sound of the 3 into 1 on a Gt750.....they sound superb ! Back in the day, lots of people knocked the performance of the old Piper, but personally, I couldn't detect any difference on my 750M. in any case, I would have happily sacrificed some performance for the sound. I have only ever seen pictures of the Bromlech system, but must say, it's not a very attractive looking pipe.
Tim and I have been working on a 3 into 1 for the 750 for some time, and we are quite close to completion now. We bought an old Piper, and cut it up to check the internals.....we shall be building ours like we do our 500 pipes....from highly polished stainless. We will be improving on the look of the Piper, in as much as, our pipe will not have the big flat, beaten in side to the chamber, where it clears the centre stand mounting. We are using our stainless headers and polished aluminium clamps....that part of the work is all done !
Watch this space all you 750 boys, as we shall post here as soon as it's done !

Re: Mean Roar
@ Ja-Moo - that's three chambers with the three stingers joined into one big silencer? Sounds good!
@ Titan - those chambers sound fantastic, a real threatening crackle to them. And the clip of the 4 bikes on the TT course is glorious

Re: Mean Roar
Thanks for the kind words Craig. Our pipes do tend to be a little loud, but we made the baffles easily removeable for extra packing.
I can't wait to fire up our 750 once we have fitted the completed 3-1 for the first time. I think that will be a you-tube moment.

Re: Mean Roar
And please post a before and after dyno run with stock pipes versus the new pipe. That will be most interesting to see.
