introduction (not sure where they go)
hi everyone,
joined up in the hopes of getting my gt380 on the road. little history hope I don't bore you. anyways I grew up in a tiny railroad town in pa called cressona. in the early 80s it was rife with mx. everyone but me had a bike. I got to ride a ton though. so I never touched a motorcycle for 20 or so years. my buddy had a 70s cb550 and an 80s kz650 and a hodaka road toad! well we got em all running and my hunt was on for a hodaka. well that didn't happen I picked up a ke100 then the hodakas came. two ace 100s one 68 and one 72. man I love those bikes. well anyways it was time time to move up so I found a 76 gt380 project. supposedly running last January. I have the carbs torn down for cleaning sans the top mechanism. found that the jets (brand new) are two 95s and a 925. they must of thought it was a 550. manual calls for all 80s. so two questions, where should I post here or repair and where do I get main jets.
ps I have done a lot of reading of threads. especially the 400 dollar gt380 and scorches revival
thanks sorry for the long one and hope to learn a lot about my sweet new motor bike.

Welcome aboard.
Do yourself a favor. DO NOT install Keyster carb kits. If you have trouble finding the jets, I can get genuine Mikuni jets - 4 pack for around $15.00.

hi zebra! Welcome to the forum, Eric's home for 2-stroke Suzukis
Thanks for the bike history, I remember the ol' Hodakas...
I would go with Coyote's advise, I have the ebay jets and I think the quality is not as good as genuine Mikuni.
Now, how about a picture (of the 380

Don't SUDCO sell direct to the public now? They are the US importer of all things Mikuni.
Get genuine Mikuni parts. In my experience R&D and Keyster do not flow exactly the same as a Mikuni jet. I don't have a 380 to check but there are three series of main jets for these old carbs. Your bike has #1624 series needle jets acording to my notes, but I have no details of teh type of main jet. The three are:
Large Hex 4/042 - Most common in older bikes. Fits VM, TM and TMX carbs. IIRC thread is 5mm x 1.0mm
Large Round N100/604 - Used in some needle jet types and has a different thread to the large hex. Thread is 5mm x 0.75mm Used in #188, 171 and 196 series needle jets.
Small round N102/221 - Used in CV carbs for example the GT750.
There's also a small hex, but it's pretty rare .
Step One: determine what jets your bike has in it.
Step 2 call SUDCO and ask them to ship you a pack of 4 #80s, or PM Coyote Chris. He'll treat you right.

Re: introduction (not sure where they go)
Welcome There is a wealth of knowledge up in here.
My first bike was a Hody 100. A friend and I were riding in an old sludge dump used by the paper mill in out town. We came over a one of the moguls and realized that it became (to our surprise) the new dump area. This area was about the size of two swimming pools and it took hours to pull our bikes out. Pulp sludge is like cold, stinky, wet oatmeal. His RM125 was ok but the Hody cooled off two fast and cracked the head and turned the piston
into a 1000 pieces. We still talk about it to this day.

Re: introduction (not sure where they go)
love meetin people who road hodies. We have a vintage bike night and it seems like every time I ride someones like "awesome that was my first bike!!" Hi Coyote I'll take you on that offer. I'd rather buy from someone who knows. I've had some trouble finding them. We have a local bike junk yard Im going to see if I can find some there less you think it's better to buy new ones. I'm also missing the left inner pipe for sure. besides that pretty much complete, beside the seat. I'm outta town for a few days but have internet on my phone. I'll pop in. Nothing much to look at but I'll post pics when I can. No side cover and tank is flat black. Plans are to clean carbs, check that the plastic gear isn't broke, check points and give her another go. I have good spark on all plugs. Had no idea about the vacuum petcock so it was hooked up wrong. Tried to start it and gas was dumping out the open header. Thats when I decided to check the carbs. Also missing the adjusted for the throttle "pulley" anyways be back soon

Re: introduction (not sure where they go)
zebra, I ordered the jets. The price is better than I thought. $9.99 + 8.5% Tulsa tax = $10.84 for a 4 pack. He had some in stock but they were EBC (I thought the just made brakes). I could have bought the three he had for $6.51, but I opted for the Mikunis. Holiday weekend, I might not get them till Tuesday or Wednesday. I will PM you when I have them.
Anybody have any experience with EBC jets?

Re: introduction (not sure where they go)
wish I would mentioned this before I said order them. this bike is missing the air box. so it has aftermarket air filters. they are the pod type (non foam) but they look like hockey puck. they have a metal back. will this affect the jetting?

Re: introduction (not sure where they go)
Main jets only affect 3/4 to WOT. Are you saying these filters are short and flat? If so, it won't run right with ANY jet combination. Can you provide a pic of these filters? They sound like something that belongs on a lawn mower.but they look like hockey puck.
I am running this type of pod. They gave me fits, but only as far as the idle circuit goes. If I were you, I'd keep my eyes peeled for a stock air box. They show up on eBay all the time.

Re: introduction (not sure where they go)
kinda like this http://www.shopmania.co.uk/auto-accesso ... er-5197499" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . I didn't buy them they came with the bike. Also I've set floats before, but I always wondered where I'm supposed to be measuring from. Top of gasket, take out gasket, or on the lip? thanks

Re: introduction (not sure where they go)
Take out gasket. There is a small ridge that the gasket 'bites' on. Measure from that ridge. Above all, make sure the float tang is not depressing the plunger on the float needle. If it is, rig your carbs at an angle. The tang on the float needs to just touch that needle plunger and not depress it.

Re: introduction (not sure where they go)
just got back from my buddies. Cleaned the carbs and reassembled will have to pull them when I get the new main jets. But she fired, spit and growled all kinds of smoke. You gotta understand the baffles are out and the two middle pipes are not hooked up. Well I'm missing one totally. Other observations are clutch is not working properly. Didn't try shifting while it was running, but in first gear with the clutch pulled the tire won't roll free. Hope to get parts I need at vintage days.
