So I've got some some brand new shiney VM34...ss jetting?

Post by FatBoyCrash »

Gudday,
Long time lurker.....

So I've gone and sprung for some brand new left and right VM34 Mikuni's for my T500. Porting is stock (for the moment) but I'm running pods and swarbrick chambers.
Has anyone got some jetting specs they could share please??

Also, I'd like to replace the rubber intake manifolds.... Any suggestions? The two bolt holes are 65 mm apart. Mikuni lists 70, 60 and 75 mm apart holes.... Anyone know which part no. to use or where to source some new manifolds??

I'm running B9 NGK sparks... Anyone running something else? I'm in Australia, Winter is about 20 degrees average temp celsisus where I am....

All help deserves beer... Ya just gotta come get it!

Regards
Shannon

What's in there at the moment:

Pilot jet: #60?
Needle jet: 159 P-4?
Needle: 6F9?
Main Jet: 240
Main air jet: 2.0
Float needle assembly: 3.0?

Please replace my guesses with real answers.

Original T500's had 34mm carbs and they were replaced with 32mm on later carbs which are similar outlet size AFAIK.

And where do i go to get that beer?

Gudday...

Brisbane Australia for the free beer!

I'm a bit lost. Waddya mean what's in there now?? Nothing is on the bike now. Hence the new VM34's. I'm just looking for
1) A ball park baseline jetting for VM34's (new ones)
2) A source for new manifolds

Anyone??

No worries. I'll probably be there in a few weeks for a conference on clean fuels.

What I meant was what jets are in those shiny new VM34's. You may find that not much needs to be changed depending on how they were stet up by the supplier.

I have these manifolds for my GT500 project... although I can't help you over where to get them, I am afraid. Purchased off an eBay trader about 2005?

I am in turn uncertain about fitting. I was supplied with a rubber hose to cut down... but how close should the carbs be to the manifolds? Touching, or a gap? I am assuming that this is important!!

You should duplicate the stock length if you are not doing any porting. There are 2 input lengths that work. The short one where the carbs are inserted into a boot like on early T500s, and the long one with the aluminum flange and a length of rubber connector like on the GT500. The longer length on the GT500 slightly better matches the milder porting on the GT500. The issue you have with just using a length of radiator hose is that the flow will get all messed up going across the lip from the carb and then into the flange. So it would probably be best to just try to duplicate the short length and push the carb all the way up against the flange. Still might not be the exact correct length, but it appears close. Actually, I would just use the stock rubber flanges, as they will be less trouble.

Thanks for that! I may however be committed to the hose as I think that my standard rubber flanges may be too rotted.

Further to this topic - Im currently confused about what jets/setup my current VM32s are running and am considering a set of these:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mikuni-VM34- ... 25696b5224" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

From the supplier, they come jetted like this:

Carb No.
VM34-275

Size - MM
34

Main Jet
260

Pilot Jet
35

Needle Jet
Q2

Jet Needle
6DH4

Throttle Valve
2.5

Air Jet
2.0

Needle Valve
3.3

Would you guys suggest any changes to this setup before it goes on a T500 with standard porting and airbox, plus a set of mild Titan chambers?

FatBoyCrash - If you've got yours set up now, I'd love to know what you used. I'm in Brisvegas too, so beer in my shed is always available.

Those should be close enough to get it started. Then I'd get teh pilot jets dialled in and then the mains. Start even fatter - jets are cheap.
