GT 500 headlamp lens replacement
The headlamp glass on my GT 500A is cracked and I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get another (if that isn't too much of a daft question) or if anyone knows if I could replace it with a modern equivalent that wouldn't look too out of place?
Cheers

Re: GT 500 headlamp lens replacement
You should be able to upgrade to an H4 halogen headlight. 35/35W & 45/45W H4 bulbs are available.
Would use your existing headlight shell. Beyond the headlight lens/reflector, I don't remember what else would need to be replaced.
Someone on the forum should have the info if you want to do the upgrade.

Re: GT 500 headlamp lens replacement
The GT500 uses a sealed beam lamp doesnt use simple H4 bulbs. Part number 35100-18620 supposedly obsolete with this as a replacement number W12-1076. Will cost you bunches!! 72-75 bucks. check with your Suzuki dealer or search for a replacement some where? most folks are changing to a h=whole new head lamp bucket and lens so the H4 Bulb can be used. Re: GT 500 headlamp lens replacement
Thanks for that advice. I think I'll go for the upgrade but I'll wait a while as just by coincidence a full headlight with good chrome has just turned up on ebay, so I'll see if I can win that one first.

Re: GT 500 headlamp lens replacement
You can upgrade to an H4 headlight that's for certain GS bikes.
The GS headlight rim 35111-45231 fits the GT500 / later T500 headlight bucket.
The GS halogen H4 headlight 35121-45230 fits this rim.
The rim + the various little pieces you'll need are still available: http://www.suzukipartshouse.com/#/Suzuk ... 5602830022
The headlight is listed as unavailable, but it may be available under a different part number.
The headlight is from the GS L models and does look a little different than the stock GT500/T500 unit.
Suzuki used several different headlights on the GS models. If you go the eBay route, you'll need to check to make sure you've got the right one.
Bikes with this headlight:
81 GS550T
81-83 GS650GL
80-81 GS750L
80-83 GS850GL
80-83 GS1000GL
If the headlight is still available with a different part #, then maybe one of the Suzuki gurus knows the #.

Re: GT 500 headlamp lens replacement
You can use the headlight from a GS400, get the pigtail too so it will plug right up to the wiring harness. You will also need to get the rim also as the headlight mounts are different. Try used parts for that. The top rim mount needs to be bent down slightly to fit into the shell. It will hook onto the lip there and the lower screws will fit perfectly. If you choose to get a different headlamp, you will still need the GS400 or similar rim. I think a GS 550 or larger bike uses a larger headlight, so it will not fit the GT500.

Again, thanks for the advice it was all good, but I ended up 'winning' that headlamp on Ebay, £70 eek! I just hope it's the right type when it arrives!

Re: GT 500 headlamp lens replacement
The thing is Pedro, I'd already lodged my highest bid and I was waiting for it to end before I contacted you, it just so happened that I won. Not only that, my headlamp shell was a pitied mess anyway and it needed re-chroming of which I was quoted £55, and then I would've had to pay out even more for the lens, etc. As I was getting a bit desperate as they don't come up very often I decided to put in a silly bid. But I'll know in future who to go first. It's all a bit of a steep and sometimes quite expensive learning curve this restoration business, as I'm beginning to find out.
Btw, I went to the VJMC show at Uttoxeter on Sunday and managed to get hold of a couple of headlamp ears off the Suzuki parts dealer from Holland. Mint condition and only £20 each, I was quoted £50 each to re-chrome so I'm finding it pays sometimes to look a bit deeper, rather than going down the re-chroming route.

This is the GS L model headlight I was referring to:

Bidding ends in about 10 hours -- no bids so far and might get everything for $30 + shipping.
