I have a 75 GT550 (nippondenso) and wonder if the nippondenso points from the GT380 or GT750 would work on my bike?
My shop has some NOS Nippondenso points tuneup kits that must be from the late '70s/'80s and I just want to get the points from them for my bike. I am trying to cross reference the points at this point.
Do the GT380 and GT550 and the GT750 use same points?

I have different kits for my 380 and ones for the 750, whether you can retro fit, I don't know but my kits are bike specific.

According to the Zedder cross reference, the points sets are common between the GT550 and GT750.

Re: Do the GT380 and GT550 and the GT750 use same points?
Nope.
I see two types of points listed - Denso - which is evidently unique to just the GT380. And Kokusan which are common across GT250, GT380, TC305, T125, T250, T305 and T500 models depending on year, but broadly speaking between 1967 and 1977.
Not GT550 though.

Re: Do the GT380 and GT550 and the GT750 use same points?
What makes it tricky is Suzuki used two different ignition systems in the GT550 production. My 75 is Kokusan, but the next guys might be Nippon Denso. The points do not interchange between the 2 systems. The points cam is also different, meaning you can't use a Denso cam on a Kokusan points plate and vice versa.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

Re: Do the GT380 and GT550 and the GT750 use same points?
Absolutely !!! 750 and 550 all same same.....IF they're Nippon Denso.According to the Zedder cross reference, the points sets are common between the GT550 and GT750.
I inherited a nice new set of genuine Suzi ND points and condensers with the '77 Buffalo I picked up a number of years ago. I checked them against my 550 and they're a perfect match. So, if my 550 points EVER wear out, I'm ready to install a fresh set.

Re: Do the GT380 and GT550 and the GT750 use same points?
The nice thing is that the Kokusan and Denso ignition systems are completely interchangable...you just have to change all the parts as an assembly. Denso points are more readily available than Kokusan.
