Yes, that is the air cleaner is the 75 version with the twin sock, do you think that the 150 jets might be too rich?titan performance wrote:Chris.....a couple of posts back, are you saying you have replaced the 97.5 main jets with 150s?
Is the motor and air cleaner set up stock?

Re: T500 no start
So you have replaced 97.5s with 150s, and no other mods?
If that's the case I can't believe it runs at all......that's way too rich. On my 500, I run open carbs, and the motor is ported, and I use 130s. I have ragged it mercilessly without melting pistons.
If your set up is stock...use the 97.5s or it will be way woolly. As I said, I can't believe it will even run at all on 150s..........

Re: T500 no start
Just changed the main jets and needles back to the 97.5 and the engine sounds better,
can't be anymore specific than that and the throttle response is crisper.
Took it out for a spin up the road and it was terrific but now I see why so many complain about the drum brakes. Scary! I'm going to have to plan my stops earlier.

The drum brakes can be surprisingly good, properly set up with the right linings.....
You should also make sure the needles are set in the middle position of the 5 available...as again, it will run too rich if they have been raised, which will make it woolly and thirsty....

The C clips are in the middle position.
"The right Linings"? The only brake shoes I have been able to find are from the factory.
How would I go about changing the linings, a machine shop?
I love the look of the drums and would go to great lengths to keep them as long as I got a better bite when I hit the brakes. Please, do tell all.

Go to a brake/clutch re-liner, he can re-shoe your brakes.

Re: T500 no start
When I got my T350 the brakes were pretty dismal. Lubed the brake cable, lubed the pivot points, and carefully adjusted the 2LS mechanism. Bike already had EBC front shoes, so I only replaced the rears. Definitely made a world of difference.
Definitely worth your time to make sure your T500 brakes are properly adjusted & lubed. Also still should be able to get new aftermarket brake shoes.
EBC brakes for the T500 are: S612 for front & S609 for rear.
The S609 was used on a number of bikes and appears to be still available in the US.
Few sets of S609 are currently available on US eBay at a good price:

I don't think the S612 are still available in the US.
Occasionally S612 show up on eBay -- I recently purchased them for my T500.
Few sets of S612 are currently available on Amazon at a good price:

The S612 may still be available in Europe. See:

VintageBrake specializes in brakes for vintage bikes. http://www.vintagebrake.com/
They specialize in Ferodo brakes, and provide re-shoeing services.
They might have brakes for the T500 -- F/R T500 brakes shoes are included in their product list.

Don't know anything about them -- maybe a forum member has some experience with them.
