modern headlight upgrade for flat-bottom T-series headlights

Post by jabcb »

Anyone know about installing modern halogen headlights in the T-series headlight enclosures?

Found this Dutch site that may have something for the T500, but I don't know Dutch:

Its not a direct link. Click on "Onderdelen GT". Scroll down & to the right.

Don't know about conversions, but I have dealt with Erik before - recommended. While his site is in Dutch, his English is excellent - just give him a call ! 8)

That looks like a Carello quartz reflector assembly with some kind of adapter ring on it. I can't be sure of the size of the reflector, though.... :?:

This is what I found on their site. Definitely looks like a regular headlight with an adapter for the flat-bottom enclosure.

Lane had effected an alteration that was very effective for altering old reflector units. He cut out the back of the old reflector carefully and then retro fitted an H4 socket with a portion of the surround left onto it from a scrapped H4 lamp housing glued onto the back of the old unit.
You only need to make the hole just big enough for the H4 socket to fit in, so from the front it look stock.
If the angle of the H4 reflector surround isnt quite correct to the donor reflector, you can pie slice the flange portion and then bend it to get the right angle, then glue it into place.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

There are also some notes on that same workaround on the Oregon Cycle site at this link. It #10 in the FAQ list.

Thanks for everyone's input.

Took a look at the Oregon Motorcycle Parts FAQ. Would prefer to use a modern halogen headlight, which has a lens + reflector that was designed for the H4 bulb.

I emailed the Dutch company & will post the results.

Also, there were a few more pictures that went along with the two in my initial posting.
Its a Cibie headlight:

Did a Google search and didn't find any more info about the Cibie headlight.
