The stator coils lasted a year and a half. I may have contributed to their early demise as I had a lot of trouble with the wires vibrating off of them. I got where I could pull, the cover off,, and rotor off in 5 minutes or less. I know exactly what tools in what order and have a rotor puller set up for this. Finally dawned on me to put a good coat of epoxy on the connections and coil to take care of vibration. Those coils do not give you much to work with when soldering to them.....

Almost forgot, I found a circuit for a V/R on the net, built it, but have not tried it yet. If these had a flip up seat it would be sooooo much easier to service stuff under it! If you want to see the schematic, let me know. I did replace the rectifier with a Radio Shack unit. I think it was $3.50 or so.

This might sound like a stupid question, but...

How do you tell which carburetor uses which slides?
Which model had cutaway?

According to the info on ozebook,
http://www.ozebook.com/compendium/t500_ ... pspecs.htm

there was only one carburetor between the gt500 and the t500
and they all used a 2.5 slide?

I ask because I've got a gt500 engine in a t500 frame that's never quite run right,
and I'm wondering if the slides were different between the t500 and the gt500
maybe the previous owner left the t500 slides in it? How can I tell?

Hi Moth.....I doubt that your problem is the same....
Apart from the earlier T500 which had 34mm carbs, all the others including the Gt, had 32mm, and they were all the same. As Tyler has stated with his, when the slides are round the wrong way, it wont idle, because the slide cutaways are on the wrong side of the carb..

Titan Performance.. You just saved me a ton of headache. Thanks, mate. I was about to pull my carbs to clean them again when I lucked onto this thread. I had replaced one of the slides/needle with bits from my parts bike, and when I reassembled things I must have done just what the OP did... my slides were reversed and it was running but barely and wouldn't idle. Was also fouling plugs and smoking like mad. Thanks to you, I'll get to ride today, and what could possibly be better than that??

When I'm ready to buy a set of expansion chambers, I'll be sure to hit you up.

That's great news !

What seem like major problems are often really quite simple........
