North Queensland cyclone!

Post by muzza »

Whoa what a storm.....category 5 plus cyclone, 310 km/h winds, what!!

My Dad is right in the eye of the cyclone and they predict 7 meter high storm surges where he lives.
My sister is not far away on the beach at Allingham and I am real worried about her and her family.
My other sister is in Cairns, they will be hard hit but I hope OK.

Worried, you bet I am.

This is what the storm looks like superimposed on the mainland USA...

Can't do much but sit back and wait. I think there will be unprecendented devastation, hope everyone up there gets through OK.

I know you guys are going through a real bad storm covering a huge area.....deep snow......

Where I am we are suffering drought....we can't win right now.

It is one hell of a storm for sure  My cousins in Brisbane say they are OK, and they were not impacted by the recent flooding - same for the Melbourne relatives.

no idea of how my rellies are yet, but sounds like people might have got through OK. Too early to tell exactly. Massive mess and destruction though around where my Father and sister are. Worrying night for sure.

Sister at Cairns OK but had very bad night, Sister at Ingham cut off, no power, no phone, no idea yet of damage. My old man's at Cardwell where tidal surge over 5 metres. He is a street back from the water. No word yet, hope OK. Everyone may have been lucky but imagine damage would be extensive.

We're all good down here in Brisbane. Just got off the phone to some friends in Townsville, the roof came off their office (sweet!) but otherwise everything fine. Still catching up on the news though.

Hey greenmachine, isn't it about time you thought of leaving and moving south to a friendlier climate like in the ACT :) :)

Mate, I'm in Canberra every few months and if I ever find a hill, a road with a bend in it or a pub that opens after 9pm on a weeknight I'll move there!

No word on my old man yet, he was in the thick of it. They are saying check back in 24 hours as the police can't get through yet.
Just have to wait. Cardwell looks like a hell of a mess.

Parksie, Ill move to canberra when they move the politicians and the public servants out!

Ten to six s'morning got message they have pulled him out of the bush, taken to hospital, don't know where he is yet

He was up the hill at the town lookout, above the tidal surge level, presumably in a car. There was nowhere else to shelter.
Cyclone blocked road needed SES to get in to rescue.

At least that is something, the lack of news was troubling.

I feel like a drama queen now, but also feeling somewhat relieved.

Thank God everyone is OK.

ACT has more flies than anywhere else on the planet. I was told it was a holdover from the old cattle day, but now I realize that the story teller meant that it's the amount of Bull s**t that attracts the flies.
