Under a liter and your in grade school?
"In the cruiser market, in case you haven't heard, size matters. "If you're not packing at least a liter between your legs, son, well, then you must still be in grade school."
I had the above emailed to me. Does size matter? If it does, I guess I'm still in grade school!
I bought my GT550L new in 1974, and the only part that has to be changed on a regular basis is the speedometer. I can't get much more than 40,000 miles out of them, and I'm on my forth one now!!

Cliff, all I can say is that your email buddy has some serious self image issues to resolve. One must assume that he's rather small and feels inferior.
I like small bikes.

Sometimes your physical dimensions make it difficult to ride a bike properly, for example if your leg inseam is 34 inches, most smaller bikes will feel way too cramped. However that should not stop you from building or restoring a bike you like, riding it for an extended period of time will be a whole other story.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

i don't regard harleys as large anymore, not compared to the metric bikes. not to mention the big triumph. same size as my accord.

John. That's exactly what that silly comment is about. Sounds like the school bullies when I was in primary (elementary) school.

Re: Under a liter and your in grade school?
Where DO people get these crazy ideas ?? Thankfully this whole cruiser/chopper thing is being brought to its knees by the crappy economy.....hopefully never to return, IMO.
Cliff, your 550 will see off pretty much any cruiser less than, say, an M109 Suzi or that old-school over-the-top thing from brand y.
Grade school ?? Good enough for me, too.

Re: Under a liter and your in grade school?
Hey, the 550 works for me!! I did a 3000km (2000 mile) ride last summer in FIVE days!! Four days, two days down two days back of, "ride it like you stole it" on the interstates and one day of touring around Tennesse and ending up at The Tail of the Dragon! Is the GT550 a "Cruiser"? I didn't have a problem with her! Had to stop for fuel every 160 kms. (100 miles) or so, but it also gave us a chance to have a smoke and air out our butts!! (The cruiser rider with me had a small problem with "monkey butt"!!) When we got home we checked our GPS units for times and mileage and such just to compare. His max. speed was 106 MPH! Mine was 111 MPH!!! That must have been when we were doing a beer run in Kentucky! Just our luck we stopped in a dry county!!

Juggie,
I like to use the old "Circus bear on a bicycle" analogy when I ride my wife's 400 Honduh.

I'm up to 271 Pounds now from all the Prednisone that the doctors had me on for my back and Not being able to work much this winter to help keep the pounds off.Looks like I'm going to have to get the GT750 out and fix it up to ride.

At Christmas I was at the Ol' Lady's Place and Her Nephew was setting at the table. He looked up at me where I was Standing and Asked "How F*$^in' Tall are you?"
I told Him tall Enough to Bump my Head on Doorways and Ceiling fans.

Re: Under a liter and your in grade school?
Cliff, you really deserve an Honorary Iron Butt ward for a ride like that.
I'm pretty sure I'd be in traction trying a ride like that on my 550.
