Lest we forget...

Post by Zook-e »

December 7, 1941 " A day that will live in infamy".

Remember all those who gave all on this day in History, both servicemen, servicewomen and civilians.

I detest wars, its a waste of life, dictated by a few, onto which many innocent suffer. However its the past and we cannot change it but hopefully use it to learn lessons from. Seems we are still learning and not getting anywhere fast.
To all those fallen heros who served in the wars of the past and died bravely for 'the cause', because of your sacrifice I am grateful to be able to have the freedoms we take for granted so freely today.
One day I hope to be able to go to Flanders field and to the beaches of Normandy, just visiting those two places will be an experience in itself.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

I visited the memorial at Pearl Harbor back in the summer of '95. I was speechless with the thought of the horrific events that took place there. My respect and admiration to all our servicemen and women.

Just to bookend what Allan said earlier, just look at what we have done too. Dresden we turned into a firestorm for example

Wikpedia says this about WW1
The total number of casualties in World War I, both military and civilian, was about 37 million: 16 million deaths and 21 million wounded. The total number of deaths includes 9.7 million military personnel and about 6.8 million civilians. The Entente Powers (also known as the Allies) lost about 5.7 million soldiers while the Central Powers lost about 4 million.

Unlike most (if not all) conflicts that took place in the 19th century and before, the majority of military deaths in World War I were caused by combat as opposed to disease

For WW2 they say
World War II casualty statistics vary greatly. Estimates of total dead range from 50 million to over 70 million.[1] The sources cited on this page document an estimated death toll in World War II of 62 to 78 million, making it the deadliest war ever. When scholarly sources differ on the number of deaths in a country, a range of war losses is given, in order to inform readers that the death toll is disputed. Civilians killed totaled from 40 to 52 million, including 13 to 20 million from war-related disease and famine. Total military dead: from 22 to 25 million, including deaths in captivity of about 5 million prisoners of war.

And our "leaders" and stupid politicians with a local agenda just don't get it. They still think it's tough to sound tough and spend Trillions of dollars on conflict, Supposedly 3 trillion in Iraq and we want to blame the current administration for the deficit.

War. What is it good for. Absolutely nothing..........................
