74 GT750 front fork options

Post by holysmoke »

So, I replaced the left leaky fork seal, and it still leaks. There's something I'm missing here. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement fork? Do they cross with any other Suzuki fork?
Thanks,
Ron

Ron I thought you had solved this by checking the seal to make sure it was installed correct way up last time.. Why not post up a few photos of whats going on.

Allan, yes I thought so too. So I installed a new seal and made sure of the direction. I'm still getting some weeping. Not sure why. Do you want me to take pics of the leaky fork, or go through the installation procedure again, this time with pics?
Maybe I should pop the dust seal and see if I can see what's going on.

I'm baffled by this since I cant see it and I'm sure youve checked all the obvious things already. Pop the dust seal and see if theres oil residue on top of the seal lip and report back.
If possible leave it up and wipe away all the weeping and see if you can trace the weeping to the stanchion lip side or lower leg body side of the seal after riding it for a few miles.

I think the leaking if from the stanchion lip side. I've taken some photos. With the magnifying glass the fork imperfections are obvious. Is it enough to cause the leaking?

That stanchion leg looks strange just above the seal. In photo #7 the light shows its got some lines going around it and thats possibly where your weeping issue lies. Blowing up the photos for a closer examination with those lines and the general condition of its surface just above the seal I'd say its toast.
Forks by Frank have replacement tubes at quite reasonable prices, either that or see if ebay has something in good shape for your model.

I still have that set off a 74 (chrome dust boots). New seals are already in place.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.
