It's my racing number as well as the name of my very small business Forty-Four Engineering.

Re: Dusaki's projects
I wouldn't call myself an engineer considering I don't have a degree in the field. I have been building racecars and modifying motorcycle for the last 15 years though. Forty-Four Engineering is just a name to sound a bit more professional for the parts that I design and fabricate for myself or customers. Here is some samples:rbond wrote:At the risk of sounding stupid, what knid of engineering do you do?

Re: Dusaki's projects
I drove a non-winged car once @Lincoln Park in Putnamville. They used to have a quasi school there.
Where I live it's all modifieds and late models. Went to the USAC race @34 Raceway this June. Before that it'd been since 1994 @Wilmot, WI since I'd seen non-winged cars run.
If you ever get anywhere near Iowa let me know, for real.

Re: Dusaki's projects
I destroyed a car this year at Putnamville aka "Rutnamville" leading a B main that we should have never had to run. Long story. We stayed around Lawrenceburg this year going for the points championship on a next to nothing budget and only one sponsor. We finished 6th overall. Not too bad when you have to run against USAC guys every other week.
We are planning to do some traveling next year and hit some more of the 1/4 mile tracks. I think the closest we will come to Iowa will be Kokomo IN. I'll keep in touch.

Really? That's about an hour from where I live. Never had the desire to go. Of course never saw the movie either so someone'd have to explain the whole scenerio to me.

Re: Dusaki's projects
Well, I suggest you rent the movie, or research it online, it has a nice story line to it.
We, of course went out there because my son played baseball at the time, so my hubby decided one summer to take the family on tour of the "Field of Dreams". (Between you and me, I think he was more excited about seeing it than the kids were). Nothing much out there but a huge corn field, but I do admit it was nice to be on site. As far as I know, there's nothing in New Hampton except for the Sara Lee plant and a bunch of childhood memories.

Re: Dusaki's projects
Winterized the Gt550 a few days ago and started back on my Z1000 build. The rear suspension has been quite a nightmare. I had to completely reengineer the entire geometry. The Ducati setup wouldn't fit into the frame. As a result of that, I had to modify the swingarm to accept the Kaw suspension. Ride height, dogbone angle and length, spring rate and shock dampening all had to be taken into consideration. After a few calculations and some CAD work, the bike is standing on her own two feet.

Re: Dusaki's projects
On a slightly different note, can you machine transmission gears? I ask because of two things. On T500's is the fifth gear/oil level problem and secondly is that all though the T/GT500's are 5 speed, they act more like 4-1/2 speed. I am interested in changing the 5th speed gear pair for something a little taller for a more 'normal' gera spread. I have a GT500 so I do not have the oil level problem, but those who do, could use some new 5th gear sets would appreciate a source for the gears.

Re: Dusaki's projects
I have never produced a gearset from scratch. I have done some undercutting on a few of the engines that we used in our mini sprint program. The problem I have with making such a part is I don't have access to heat treating. I would have to contract that proccess out and that means $$$. The final part's price would not be economic by any means to either party. I know that a $20 counter sprocket doesn't give you the same results, but it does sound better than $300-$500.
Has anyone tried to find an alternate gearset from another bike? That might be a solution for the problem.

Re: Dusaki's projects
I finally got all the bugs out of the 550 and decided to give her a decent dose of TLC. She definitely cleans up well.
