clutch shim

Post by smokin »

I'm not sure if I put the shim behind the clutch basket in right on my gt750, the shim has a tappered side, which way does the tappered side face, does it face the toward the basket or toward the case, I here a noise when the clutch is released but when I pull in the clutch it stops.

To add to that on some models an additional shim is found placed on the shaft first to take up a certain amount of lateral freeplay in the basket. These came in various thicknesses for setting the freeplay clearance if it was found necessary.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

My T500 clutch makes a TON of noise when the basket is starting to get loose. I recently opened up my clutch, found all steel and cork plates to be within correct tolerance, but I had a ton of free play/lash between the basket/gear. I replaced it with another basket I had handy without the same amount of play. My clutch rattle is now completely gone.
Not sure if it is the same on the GT750?

I just have to solve all the other rattles now!

I went thru a bunch of the posts trying to find the one posted by Bikegeezer about taking the side play out of the 500 clutch basket .. it may have been lost when the site crashed

The original basket was worn and I replaced it, wasn't sure if it made any noise when I bought it (wasn't running) just wanted to know if this was normal for these bikes since it's 39 years old and replacing parts with used parts doesn't always make it better but it does help.
