Neutral Indicator

Post by jmcgill89 »

The neutral light on my 1974 GT550 does not work...it was working, but stopped the other day. How does the wiring for this light work? Is there something internal on the engine that trips the light to come on?

Thanks for any info...I looked in the manual, but it didn't say much.

If your gear position indicator is working then it's most likely just the bulb blew. Suzuki abodoned the seperate neutral switch long about then and it became part of the gear position switch.
Go here: http://www.alpha-sports.com/suzuki_parts.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Look up the year - GT550 indy - gear shifting. At the bottom of that fiche is the gear position indicator. Note there is a single seperate pigtail coming out of the harness plug. Thats the wire that runs the neutral lamp. The wire is blue.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

The gear position indicator only works about 50% of the time, and when it does, I only get half the number, LOL!

The fiche there shows two different switches in there, but maybe that's just for reference to where the Neutral Switch was??

sorry jmcgill89. that was a terribly foreshortened post i made. thanks for filling in coyote.
the neutral switch boils down to: 36 is the housing, 41 is the grounding contact, 39 fastens the eye on the blue wire.
to your last post, 37 is the gear selector switch.
if you haven't done so yet, you should clean ALL the connectors in your harness to eliminate that as a source of grief.
