I bought another bike.........

Post by rngdng »

Imagine that. It's a 2001 SV650 that a friend had since new. Immaculate condition, and only 15K miles. This will be our two-up bike.

I like it, but my GOD, the engine braking!!!!!!

They're a very sweet ride, and the engine is a cracker.

It's funny that in the UK, the SVs are regarded as a kind of starter / budget bike, yet they'll top 110mph any time you like ...

From the ride I had on one, it's one of the very few modern bikes I'd actually like to own. And you're right, I barely even used the brakes :D
1976 GT380 - wounded by me, and sold on
2006 SV650S - killed by a patch of diesel and a kerb in Feb 2019
2017 SV650 AL7 - naked and unashamed

If I was going to buy a newer bike, that's the one I'd buy.

What kindof mileage are people getting out of that model of bike before a major overhaul (provided it doesn't have other circumstances)

40 to 60 thousand miles?

I know what you mean about the engine braking, my V-Strom 650 is the same way, you will get used to it. The motors are nice and revvy for a v-twin, can't lug it below 3000 much and I think mine is tuned for more torque than yours, it's reportedly down 5 HP on top from a SV but has more midrange. Congrats, nice bike.

This is my SV650n K4 I bought it about 4 years ago from my local suzuki dealer it only had 565miles on the clock. The naked fuel injected ones are pretty rare over here, I only see the half faired sv's I only take it out on sunny dry days. I love the torque and the engine braking! it really is a blast to ride!

Cool Lane! Canadian neighbors of mine in Georgia, family of four, all rode... SV, TL, and an assortment of Beemers... The SV & TL bikes always seemed like they would be a blast... My pref would be the TL but thats only because I have a larger mass than you..

Tom, the SV would be more than enough. This thing is a tractor! With me and Suzanne on it, it seems to pull the same as when I'm by myself.

Well...if you say it pulls like a tractor then it must be more technologically advanced than a Harley... :D

they're brilliant bike, the gladius has replace it.
they still sell the full fairing version.
guess what? Suzuki has brought the half faired model back in the line up because of the demand here.
I prefer the older style to which Lane has.
overall they are bullet proof, reliable, good mpg and handle like a dream,it even have it own racing club here..
like Lane says the engine braking is verrrrry good.
to me the older and the new model is like comparing the figure of sofie lorenze to kate moss and I know which one I'd prefer
