hello Wolfgang great project looks fantastic. I am based in Switzerland and I have aT500 based race bike. I am trying to buy some 50x25mm Chrome Molybdeneum tube to make a new swing arm. i assume that is the material your frame builder used. do you think I could get his contact details to ask him? Thanks
I made some good progress with the accumulation of period correct parts for my HB1 replica.
AP Racing vintage front brake master cylinder 16 - 19mm adjustable:
For the rear I am using this one from Kawasaki Z650
And finally, the cream on the cake is this set of brandnew Bimota rearsets for a really fair price. The construction of these and the adjustibibility are a dream
Coming week I will receive my tank with the integrated oiltank and the seatunit. My machineshop is working on brake caliper adapters to match the AP racing calipers to my Kawa Z1000J fork, and a custom top triple clamp.
Finally - with few weeks delay - I received my tank. It has an integrated oil tank in the expansion box at the end which goes under the seat unit.
I have included an oil level sensor from an APRILIA RS250:
For sufficient fuel delivery, a petcock with triple outlets:
Up next is installing all the electrics - need to order the ignition unit (ACCENT), the handlebar switches ( I am looking for early HONDA units since it is a HB1 replica), the indicators, and wire it all up with a customer wire loom.
Small progress yesterday. Decided for location of all electric components - Battery, Rectifier/regulator, Starter motor relay, indicator relay. There will be no sidepanels whatsoever, free view to these components.
Note: The battery is the "shell" (housing) of a conventional lead acid battery but I transplanted a powerful enough small LiFePo4 battery into it. Saves significant weight and is troublefree. I am using this battery technology already in a couple of other bikes, so far no problem.
I need to dissappoint you, it is a 750. Not sure if they sold it in the US. It looks exactly the same as the 1100 except for different color seatcover ( black instead of blue/grey), tailpiece silver vs. blue and different size rear wheel.
From what I remember the only models sold in the US were the 1000 and then the 1100. It was a bit of an iconic model and becoming some what of a minor collectors model since we had very limited of them.
Some update:
Frame, swingarm and engine cases are at the paint shop currently, hopefully ready for assembly before the Xmas holidays. This week I was very lucky to source a pair of genuine HB1 handlebars:
Rear disk re-assembled and rear wheel ready to go:
