Hi all, I'm new to this site, & I must say it looks very good!

Just picked up a Gt750 engine 72ish, along with 38mm Mikuni carbs. I want to build a peaky sunny sunday ride.
looking on here I see a spacer 3mm etc would get me close, the question is would then working the ports give me that snappy power band?

I have a Tig & milling machine etc, & may have a go at adding reed valves.
I'll remove the bulky charging gear & points set up.

looking at keeping the weight down, and making the most of the modest power. I intend to fabricate my own frame & tank, etc. Its a long term project so dont ask for pics for a while.

Best of luck.
The early GT750 was torquey rather than power ported - and bloody heavy - and as far as building your own frame, it has to comply with lots of 'stuff' so you can register it.
Better to look at a reasonably modern chassis and adapt it.
Several projects on here and elsewhere, but think this through first.
Do a search and see what others are doing.
Where are you in the UK?
There may be folks nearby that can drink your beer and advise you on the facts of life (or just drink your beer!)
I'm in South Yorkshire and can help with either of the previous ideas!!
Are you a lottery winner? You might wish you were.
Don't get me wrong. I love two strokes, especially Suzuki triples, but read up a bit before making a decision that may cause you female grief from the 'other half'.
A semi standard bike has a lot to recommend it.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

Nice!

Not sure if to go for the real classic, flanged spoked wheels or use later wheels USD forks etc.....

I do like the old twin shock period look.....

Has any one used the cheap e bay piston kits from japan? £67 for rings pistons clips & pins x3...mailed the seller about make, they stated they are from Taiwan, did not give a manufacturer

Cruizinimage stuff tends to be very good.

Hi welcome to the forum,
Plenty of stuff on here about tuning,
I wouldn't use those pistons in a tuned motor.

They are fine in a"tuned" motor. ........
For the money, they are not bad at all.......

Hi Pxr5,

Both Wiesco and Wossner make forged pistons for the GT750 (and T/GT500). If your budget can cover the cost they would obviously be the ones to use. Whether you need forged pistons for your intended tune is another matter, but they are lovely pieces of engineering.

Thanks for the reply's, I've just managed to free off the pistons & the bore's are very good.
I can even see, cross hatch marks on the surface!
At the moment I'll leave the engine in one piece, still getting the main parts together before starting.
