I've re-started my 1977 GT500 project and have two engines on the bench - a 1976 and a 1977. Externally both appear to be the same so I have three questions:
1. The oil pump covers do not fully cover the oil pump - they appear to have a cut away of about 25% of the area, whereas the 1975 and earlier I thought had full covers - just wanting to confirm that this cut away cover is correct as it doesn't look right
2. There is no cover listed in the parts manual for the oil lines, and neither engine has one - but is there not something to at least clip the oil lines in place to keep them from flapping up and down on the upper case ? Earlier models had a full cover (11441-15000) and the bolt holes are in the 1976 and 1977 upper cases to attach one (and can be seen in the photo below) . The only thing holding the lines are the banjo bolts at the pump and injection ends so the middle part where it splits from one to two lines isn't supported or held at all - it just seems odd
3. The hole on both engines right at the base of the back of the cylinders, under the carbs and centred between and below the oil injection points - on both engines they were completely packed with grit and oil, but they go all the way through and are not threaded so these are just drain holes to clear water etc. from the top of the upper case ? You can see one in the photo below with the dental pick pointing to it - just checking
Thanks !
Ian
If at first you don't succeed, just get a bigger hammer !
According to my parts catalogue 1972 J model was the last full cover thereafter was with the cutaway. and the GT diden't have a oil line covers. yep its a drain hole

Thanks Andy - just seems odd that on the GT500 the oil lines are not secured at all, but so be it.
Out of the two engines I have enough for one good one with a handful of bits left over. Oddly enough, the 1976 that externally looked to be the most abused, actually was in quite good condition internally, although I suspect the PO of the 1977 thought the engine ran a bit rough

there should be a plastic cover over them.
I'm not to sure but I think the GT had a metal clip to hold them pipe lines.
I've seen one on a GT but not sure if the owner made it or Suzuki?
just in front of the scriber there is a little block with a threaded hole that is where it is suppose to fir!
in this picture you can see the plasic cover...

Thanks John - from what I can tell from the parts manuals and also the feedback I've had so far, the 1976/1977 GT500 model didn't have the oil line cover. Makes it look a bit 'undressed' as the mounting points are still there on the upper case but are unused

I wonder if Pedro could get some made.
I've had a few emails asking if I have any also on here guys have ask but not to me personally.
if he could get some made out of glass fibre you could paint it silver etc.
no doubt this could be a little earner.
if no joy then I'll see if I could get some made provided I have one to borrow

Thanks John - it looks as if Crooks has them in stock - I'll likely be over to see my Mum early in the new year, so I may arrange for one to be delivered to her place in London.

That cover wasn't used on the GT500, although I was able to find a good used one for my T500. They are a bit disappointing when you do get one as they are just plastic and looks a bit weedy. For the GT500, while not really required, just to make myself happy I used a small plate of aluminium as a cover and it looks OK. You can read about my GT500 build trials and tribulations at this link.
Although I really doubt you will need it, I am available to give some assistance / advice on GT500's. I plan on doing a mild frame up restoration on mine. Right now I am riding a 2012 Moto Guzzi V7, my wife wants me to sell the GT as is. She does not 'get it' that I just might enjoy the work on the GT. The feelings of getting it going again are priceless!!
