Sorry about that. the question was rhetorical.

That part did not change from Job One until the last bike off the line.

That part didn't change did it?
Hmmmm.....I wonder if such a change was included with the clutch upgrade on the 550 at the A model year changeover and subsequently ALL replacement parts were the new style with rubbers ??? And Suzuki forgot to mention it in the service bulleting on the clutch changeover ???
I wish it was warm enough so I could pull Indy out of the shed and take a look. You guys have got me going here...... :?

Rick,

That's an interesting question. Do you have a parts list for early and late 550's to compare? I don't, but the GT750 parts lists seem to suggest that the part didn't change on the 750 at least.

Bu the A was quite a major upgrade, so it's possible

It Could be as simple as a ball diameter change, and not the pad thickness. if the ball bearings, were to shrink jus t 1mm in diameter, would make a noticable difference i think. Just throwing out ideas. I still havent pulled it off yet. I forgot about it til now. Ill have time next week when I'm off work.

Kris.
Hopefully by then, your replacement bearing will have arrived, along with the reeds. It will be interesting to hear how they compare. I still suspect yours was exposed to something that didn't agree with it, and swole the rubber nubbs. Enjoy your time off. Cheers.

Fred,

The balls shrunk!!! I'm not touching that with a 10 foot (or 3.3m) barge pole.

I suspect you are right about the rubber pads swelling with some sort of solvent or additive.

Unfortunately, TZ, that is one of the more lamentable "lacks" in my life.
I do NOT have ANY of the paper GT550 parts books. I have some from some of the other models and would love to swap for a 550 manual but haven't been able to set up such a deal with anyone. I have to admit that I haven't really pursued this "paper chase" very hard and it's something I should get around to after the New Year. I expended all my energies tracking down/buying/refurbishing the factory parcel rack on my 550....

Fred, I finally got to my clutch, and you may be right. The part i got from you was a full 1mm thinner at the rubbers than mine is. It may be the answer to my problem. Thanks again.

As was suspected in an earlier posting, some sort of oil or grease has attacked the rubbers and enlarged them.
Two strokes, its just that simple.
