GT petrol tank cap latch / lock mechanism

Hi
My GT250 L (74) fuel tank cap seems to be "locked" (on the wine perhaps !!) and despite what I do, it will not let me close the cap and make it latch onto the fixed pin. It is thus unable to latch onto the pin as the moving catch "claw" is stuck in what seems to be the closed position but I have rotated the key and it does one way allow me to push in the key button to supposedly open it, but nothing happens and it remains latched closed or stuck in this position
I am unable to close it as the catch seems to be "up" and will not therefore go over the pin on the tank i.e. the fixed non movable part of the locking mech.
(1) Has anyone come across this issue previously and (2)how does one remove the locking mechanism / key assy ?
Many thanks
K

Hi. They are pretty fickle things! Have a look here
https://www.oldjapanesebikes.com/blog/2 ... fuel-caps/
This will give you a help to take it apart and just watch out for the little spring! :D

when you push the button in, physically pull down on the fork of the latch. get some oil and/or wd40 on it. if you keep working at it it will/should start to open properly on its own :D
cheers, dd.
p.s. did you know any generic suzuki key will lock and unlock the fuel cap? if it fits, it will work

Thanks DD and GT
This is my first Suzuki and I have a lot more experience with Kawasaki and Yam classic 2Ts so hence some 'newbie' Qs...
Thanks for the info. it is now sorted
Cheers
