For those wanting to keep their bike the way the factory made them.

GT500 carbs: Question about Needle Valve

Post by GT500-2stroke »

Experts,

'75 GT500:
In one of carbs there was lot of corrosion which I have removed mostly.
Corrosion broke the wire like part which fits on needle valve. ( bent wire/looks paper clip/made from wire/,
sits near top of needle valve )

My question is:

1. What is the function of this wire like part?
2. Will the carb still work fine, if i do not buy this part ?
3. Is there any way I can avoid buying complete needle valve assembly ?( which is costlier than i expected )
Needle valve and Needle valve seat seems to be in good shape. Only the wire like part is broken in one of carb.

I have included some picture.
In the pictures, I am referring to the paper clip like part.

Appreciate any help.

Is there any way I can make this clip myself?
Has anybody tried it?
If yes, How did you make it yourself?

I don't think any part store sells this clip by itself.
Am I correct?

Since float needle will rest on this clip, float tab may need proper adjustment to get correct
fuel level.
Am I correct?

Clip is not available seperately it is part of a kit
The float level is maintained by this needle jet and is very important to the running of the engine.
Level too high engine bill run too rich and bog down. Too low and engine will run lean and may seize
Take a look at the cone shape on the top of the needle it should be smooth. If there are rings around it, time to replace
It. I know they are expensive but they are VITAL to the running of the engine.
To set the level the tang on the float must just touch the float needle NOT depress it at all

Thanks but,
This part does not fit my '75 GT500

I like the price though.

I tried to find the one which will fit, but so far no success :(

Then I guess the two I have on my bike don't fit, either.

Don't base your statement on what the Dennis Kirk website says. You are buying parts for a 40+ year old motorcycle. Most every mechanic and shop will say it can't be fixed.

Thanks for clearing my doubt. I did not know any better.
I will order it now.
