This is for the GT250 cafe build in my other topic.
I read someplace that 3Bond / Hondabond / Yamahabond was changed & no longer recommended for the crankcase halves. What is now recommended?
Any other tips?

Re: GT250 motor rebuild questions
I'm not aware of any such statement as it applies to 4 stroke engines and I used Yamabond to redo my XS650 without issues.
Further, I'm not aware of any differences between 2 and 4 stroke applications that would affect sealing case halves, but I'm not all that experienced with 2 strokes so take that with a grain of salt.

Re: GT250 motor rebuild questions
I have not built a Suzuki motor yet (soon), but I have built numerous Kawasaki 2 strokes...both singles and triples and use Three Bond 1184 ( and its predecessor) without exception. Never had a failure. Works fantastic. Bit of caution however. It should be put on extremely thin.....There are videos on line with guys using way more than is necessary. An acid brush with half the bristles cut off works well as an applicator.

Re: GT250 motor rebuild questions
I looked again. The post questioning the change was from back in 2011. If it was a problem that would be newer posts.
Looked online for the local Honda shop.
They list ThreeBond 1194 + lots of other ThreeBond products.
Interestingly the two HondaBond products were a little cheaper, but I’m not sure which one is equivalent to ThreeBond 1194.

Re: GT250 motor rebuild questions
Three-Bond 1104 and 1194 were replaced by 1184. It's still the right stuff. I found lots of suppliers that still have 1104 available, but it has been on the shelf for a while. I'm pretty sure Yama-bond, Honda-bond, were made by three-bond.

How do you properly preload the kick starter when you assemble the motor?

Bump. The guy doing the assembly has experience with modern 4 stroke rebuilds, but nothing older than he is.

Re: GT250 motor rebuild questions
Problem solved.
Recently got the GT250 service manual from the New Zealand eBay seller.
It includes service manuals for the T20, T200, T305, T250/T350 & GT250.
Never understood why the T250/T350 manual is so meager.
The service manuals for the later bikes are updates to the earlier manuals.
The kick starter instructions are in the T20 manual.
