the replacements have arrived - that's tonight's garage work sorted.............

one (of many) of my pet dislikes - the cast-in writing on Suzuki wheel spokes.
So today I have spent a while removing it from the l/h side of every spoke on the ex-Goose 350 front and rear wheels.
Tedious, boring job it is too..............



Got the (very old and hard) tyres off, cut the valves out and now the wheels are ready to go for powder coating, along with the frame and radiator bracket.

Took a chance on a cheap Chinese fork brace - it needed to be big to straddle the USD Showa forks.



well, it arrived today, and it fits!







It clamps securely into the recess in the oil seal holder as if it was made for it.

It's a bit too wide, but I will make a new brace plate for it in the correct size.

And it's purpose?

Purely to mount the lower, plastic rear mudguard section that will protect the front of the engine etc from road debris etc.

I 'found' these on ebay as well, and need to get in the garage to see if I can get one measured for the 550, just because they look so wrong.....

They come with oil seal protectors too - unfortunately for me, they are designed to fit with RWU forks.
As my forks are of the USD variety, I have had to re-drill the screw holes so that they mount below the brace.

dropped the frame and wheels off for powder coating, and when I got back home these had been delivered............



they will look so nice on the newly coated gloss white wheels

The RMZ's Showa front forks have been despatched to a suspension specialist to be lowered and re-sprung / re- valved for road use.

Still waiting for the phone call telling me that the gloss white powder coating is awaiting collection.

Then I can drop the box of parts off that need to be powder coated satin black.

Now trying to work out how much the rear end needs dropping to achieve a workable seat height (target is 32.5" - same as a Yamaha TDR250).

Unfortunately (for me), the RMZ's dog bones are an intricately cast alloy affair incorporating the pivot shaft.

so, tonight I have been mostly cleaning the airbox. Being an ex- motocross bike, the dirt is well stuck on, and everywhere.

But 30 minutes in the kitchen sink with some washing liquid in hot water and a Scotchbrite pad got it looking reasonable.

Then I left it to dry and attached the decals to brighten it up a bit.........

Finally finished the swing arm renovation - brushed aluminium finish courtesy of various grades of Scotchbrite pads and a large tub of elbow grease..........





"Full Floater" decal is period incorrect - Suzuki had moved on from that moniker by 2005.

But I always liked the design, and needed something to hide some deep gouges at the spindle-end of the swing arm.

Should be handy if the Esk floods......

Collect the glossy white bits for the TDRGV today...........



and made a start on the rebuild.............

My polishing chair is ideal for this build (up to fitting the front forks) as it is padded and won't mark the new frame coating.
