Mine wasn't tapered... But I did convert. Got all balls conversion bearings. They fit great. I borrowed a gear puller yesterday and swapped out the lower race for the lower taper bearing. I'll be doing my steering stops today after work. Easy peasy.

Short day today but it was good! Got the steering stops sorted. Installed the front end and discovered that the Aprilia front wheel has the same size axle as a TLR. I have to turn some spacers on the lathe at work to center it properly and figure out how to get the rotor to line up with the caliper but it's all coming together nicely.

The swing arm on the other hand is going to take a little more work. The pivot end is about 2mm too wide for the frame...

there's really nowhere to take it from on the arm itself so I'll have to mill it off the frame. Not sure how I'll be able to get it fixtured on the milling machine. Might have to go old school and bust out the 4" grinder with a fresh hard disk then file it flat again. Any input will be greatly appreciated!

Why do you say there's no where to remove 2mm from the swingarm pivot ?

Well if I take material from from the swinger I'll have to deepen the bearing bores or am I wrong? Does it have have a spacer I could shorten inside? I haven't knocked the bearings out yet so I'm not really sure if the bearing bores have a counter bore behind them like a Yamaha wheel does.

If it is anything like the GSXR swingarms it can be narrowed and the spacer inside the swingarm shortened a equal amount .

Well if that's the case it's gonna be a whole lot easier! Haha. Truthfully i was so happy the front wheel fit without any mods when I saw that the swinger didn't I called it a night so I could leave still in a good mood.

For the rear wheel, I need to source some bearings with a 28mm ID and a 42mm OD. I haven't tried the local bearing place yet but through a series of internet searches I haven't been able to find that combo. Currently the wheel bearings measure 25mm ID.

Yea nothing on the site and the office was closed when I called. I even downloaded the whole NSK catalog and didn't find what I was looking for. I put in an inquiry with McMaster but haven't gotten a reply yet. They HAVE to exist.

that could be a problem as all i could find was a roller bearing http://www.amazon.com/INA-Bearing-14000 ... 053&sr=1-4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; .. maybe turn up a spacer to go over the 25mm axle to make it 28mm where it rides in the swingarm .

What's the down side to using a roller bearing? That'd work on the sprocket side cause there's two 10mm thick bearings in there, but on the brake side only one. That's half way there! It says 14k rpm limit. If my rear wheel hit 14,000 rpms I'd be worried about a whole lot more than my wheel bearings!

Good point. The search continues.... I thought about sleeving a 25mm axle, but I thought it'd be a lot cleaner with the correct bearings. I still have time... Maybe the bearings will present themselves. I also thought about turning the TL axle down but there really isn't enough wall thickness to do it safely.

Swingarm can be machined down to width and make a new spacer.

For the rear wheel, you could use 42*30 (or 32) and make a new captive sleeve/spacer to fit inside the bearings to take it down to axle size.

I spoke to people at AllBalls and McMaster, both of them say that the bearing I need doesn't exist. So I ordered some 30 ID x 40 OD X 7 thick bearings. I'll just have a little extra lathe work to do. I won't get a chance to get into it till at the earliest tomorrow. Thanks for the idea TZ... There's always more than one way to skin a cat!
