Re: TS400 Apache
Nothing less than heroic- you're doing God's work here, sir. I love any size 1973 TS having owned one then.
No wonder it'll take you a while to recover financially and emotionally. But you'll be back in due time...what's your next target project?

Thanks !
yes - bought it off Mark & Paul of Govnors Bridge - they remembered I had restored a TS250-II and brought this in for me "as a challenge" !
Which it certainly was.

What was the biggest challenge you encountered in the restoration?

Da-yum
Slow and steady may win the race, but without loud and fast it's just a waste

Re: TS400 Apache
getting the right parts - I had to source all bits from the USA and never did manage to get the year-correct front mudguard.Sandman wrote:What was the biggest challenge you encountered in the restoration?

Re: TS400 Apache
Yeah, I thought it looked too rounded or smooth. The '71-'73 TS's all had those angular, creased edge fenders of course. Hope you have some paint saved, because you'll eventually find one and then you're done. It would bother me until I changed it, but it's really a stunner as is, though.
No doubt you bought lots of nos parts from Paul Miller Cycle in Connecticut USA and CMSNL.

Re: TS400 Apache
I purchased very few NOS parts - cables excepted - mostly used bits from ebay.com which I restored / had restored.Sandman wrote: No doubt you bought lots of nos parts from Paul Miller Cycle in Connecticut USA and CMSNL.
For instance, I couldn't source a good, used muffler shield for love or money. The original was severely gravel-rashed, so I had to fill it with bronze weld and keep filing it down until it looked good as - once chromed, I was more than happy with the result. The rear shocks had to be stripped, cleaned, sealed then re-chromed before being rebuilt and attached to the bike. They worked good.
I don't do NOS-based rebuilds - too costly !

Re: TS400 Apache
If I had kept the bike, it would have been a nice addition. But I sold the bike soon as it was finished - I don't have room for bikes I won't use.
