1974 GT250 Project
Just wanted to say hello I just found this forum. Its sad many forums aren't around anymore so its nice to find one on 2 stroke bikes. I've been into mechanics since I was a kid and over the last 15 years I've done tons of professional and personal performance/repair work. I learned never make a hobby into a job because after about 10 years doing performance work as a job (mostly snowmobile and off-road) I was getting tired of it. Anyway I was lucky enough to find a 74 GT250 and its only got 8000 miles on it and everything is in great shape but its in boxes so I'm going to do some work to the engine and try to keep the rest all original. I'll post in the performance section about what I plan on doing just thought I would start a restoration thread.

Re: 1974 GT250 Project
Thanks! I have owned too many bikes to count and had many 2 stroke off-road bikes/atvs/sleds but this is the first 2-stroke on-road bike that I have owned. I've worked on a few dozen over the years but could never find one that I could afford as they are really rare where I live. Theres one guy that puts up wanted ads on craigslist and buys every 2-stroke on-road bike before anyone can get a chance. I've called on probably 100 over the last few years and they are always already sold so I'm pretty excited to finally own one.
Test riding the ones I have worked on I can definitely say theres nothing like legally riding a 2-stroke down the highway!

Do you have any pics posted on here of your MB5? I've only ever seen one in real life!

Wow those are nice. Ya I bet they were fun to cruise around on. I guess now that I think of it i did own a handful of old enduro dirtbikes but this will be the first 2 stroke that I will have registered and road legal. I can't wait lol.

I can't for the life of me find a center crank bearing for this bike. The bearings are still in exellent condition but I'd still like to replace them if anyone knows where I can aquire one. part # 09262-25008

Re: 1974 GT250 Project
so I'm still going to rebuild the crank I have and go through that whole engine but for now in order to hopefully catch some of the late summer or fall I bought a complete lower end that I can just slap a top end on it and get it together then over the winter I will build the really good modified engine for it and clean up the whole bike. I also picked up a GT750 engine for cheap it has a broken crank but the price was worth it.
